Antibiotics For Life

I have been put on 200mg of Cefpodoxime for life. I had an infected TKR (knee replacement) and infection was not stopped. I have had now my third TKR and the doctor has put me on this antibiotic. It has kept the infection away for about a year and a half now but wondering what side effects or concerns I should have. I try to periodically look up anyone that takes antibiotics daily and I can never find anyone. Can I stop at some point? is this bad? The antibiotic does keep the infection away and I don't want another infection again but this still seems extreme. Any thoughts?

There are many people who take an antibiotic daily prophylactically. Generally, the only long-term concern is that bacteria may build up resistance to that particular antibiotic, so it you did develop another infection, you'd have to take something else.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

So no, it isn't bad. Some people get so many urinary tract infections that they have to take antibiotics to prevent them for life.
