Antibiotics For Tooth Infection

I have an antibiodic for tmp and I have a bad tooth which causes the roof of my mouth and gum to swell with infection it is very painfull and I do not have insurance. I was wondering if this antibiodic was something that would treat this infection...

Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can in-fact be used to treat a tooth infection, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin.

I would also consider speaking with a dentist about the underlying cause of this infection, just to make sure it's not something that will be reoccurring.

Thank you so much. I endeed got it filled today and begun taking it. I knew it wasn't first choice but will get the job done. This problem is however ongoing too...but thanks so much for the help !!
