I would like to know if Anaerobyl is a safe option for me if I want to conceive? Currently, my periods are not irregular nor do I have any period pains.
According to MedlinePlus, Anaerobyl is used to treat infections of the reproductive system, GI tract, skin, heart, bone, joint, lung, blood, nervous system, and other areas of the body.
It is also used to treat STDs and bacterial vaginosis.
This medication is in a class of drugs called nitroimidazole antimicrobials, which works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Will Anaerobyl (Metronidazole) interfere with your ability to conceive?
Anaerobyl is an FDA Pregnancy Category B drug, which means that animal studies have not shown any indication of harm to the fetus; however it's important to note that an adequate number of well-controlled studies among pregnant women have not yet been conducted.
Posted below are a couple studies that further imply no association between Metronidazole treatment during the first or later trimesters of pregnancy and preterm birth, low birth weight, or congenital anomalies:
NOTE: It may also be wise to consult your respective doctor(s) to help determine the root causes (if any) behind why you aren't getting pregnant.
Hope this information helps!

Hi, I've been to the clinic because I've been experiencing pains in my womb. I've also been having a yellowish discharge for a couple of months now. Haven't been sexually active for the past 8 months and always used a condom in my previous relationship prior to visiting the clinic. Also did a pap smear on the same day. The nurse gave me Anaerobyl 400 and an injection. What could possibly be wrong with me? Will it stop the discharge as it is quite worrisome.

Re: xolly shandu (# 9)
Anaerobyl contains the active ingredient Metronidazole; which is an antibiotic used to treat certain types of bacterial infections.
According to medical literature, Metronidazole is an FDA Pregnancy Category B drug, meaning that animal studies have not revealed evidence of harm to the fetus but that adequate, well-controlled studies among pregnant women have not been conducted either.
Posted below are some additional resources for more information as it relates to Metronidazole in pregnant patients:
My personal understanding is that it's generally regarded as safe unless otherwise contraindicated at your doctor's discretion.
Hope this helps!
