Ampyra's Working... Oh No, It Stopped =(
UpdatedMy level in this MS journey is - very weak and stiff on my left side of my body. I use a walker and wheelchair when going places. I started Ampyra about 3 months ago. Within 2 days I really started to feel it! I was able to turn over @ night in bed (I usually can't), I had more strength when I'd get up from a chair or sofa. Then about 3 weeks or so into starting Ampyra I had so many stressful situations happen in my life. Then I lost every good symptom relief I had. I know, I know... the drug works for some better than others.. blah, blah, blah. I just wanted to know if anyone out there can relate and if so, what was your outcome. Thanks =)

Ampyra is a very new medication, just recently approved by thee FDA, it contains the active ingredient Dalframpridine. It is most commonly used to help treat MS symptoms.
That said, yes, headaches are a common side effect, which should wear off as your body adjusts to the medication. If they don't or become severe, you should speak to your doctor.
Other side effects may include: nausea, insomnia, dizziness and back pain.

As with any medication, it is successfully helping some people and not others.
There are several other posts on it, here are some links:

Are there any other questions?
I started taking Ampyra in May and had great results for about a month or so. Now it's Nov and I am wondering if I should stop for a few days and start again. The summer was very stressful, so I am wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Oh I can relate to you. I am also extremely weak and stiff on my left side. Use a walker and a scooter when I go out. I have been on Ampyra for about 6 months and am ready to quit taking it. Do you know if it safe to just stop taking it cold turkey? I need to call the pharmacist. My Dr. wants me to be evaluated for a baclofen pump? I take oral Baclofen, but I think I need to take a larger dose to see a difference. The pump is not supposed to give you the side effects as the oral does. I have a young son so I don't want to have that tired feeling all the time either. Who knows??? MS is such a tough disease, bless you and good luck.
I never had benefits for walking but I did with my energy level. I started on 5/1/10. However, after several months I noticed my walking got WORSE.I stayed on Ampyra because it helped me so much with fatigue, but that stopped a couple of months ago so I stopped totally 2 weeks ago. I'm having a tough time walking now. Before I stopped I wasn't using a cane - now I need it all the time. I think Ampyra made my walking much worse.
Hi I felt the effect was less (or reduced) than when i started. I have Tysabari tomorrow so will see if that help in a combination.
