Ampyra Headaches (Page 4)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been taking Ampyra for 4 days. I have noticed a decrease in fatigue but headaches daily. The question is will they eventually go away on their own, or do I skip a day and see if they stop or quit til I see the doc ?

I see your posting was last week. Are you still taking ampyra and has the dizziness passed? What did you do to ameliorate the feeling?

I am replying to the person who felt dizzy after taking ampyra. I, too, became extremely dizzy after taking my 2nd dose Saturday morning. I could not even lift my head up. It took several hours until the feeling passed. I am reluctant to take another dose. I called the Ampyra hotline and a pharmacist told me to stop taking it and call my doctor on Monday. I would think the pharmacist would know more than my dr about whether the symptom will pass. I read a posting elsewhere from someone who took half doses after getting dizzy to let his body adjust for a couple of weeks, then increased to the full dose and is doing fine.

I,ve been taking ampyra for 2 weeks. Does anyone know how long until I feel effects? I have read that one of the drug effects is to block some of my potassium in the body. I take potassium pills . Is that a problem?

Cecilia, I also have PPMS and cannot believe how Ampyra has changed my life so far. I was very worried about taking it and very excited. The worry was from getting so up about and if It didn't work, I would be stuck with where I was at and just getting worse. I can't believe how much better I am in 4 weeks and it seems to keep making a difference. My back spasms at night are almost gone and the stiffness is much better. I hope your husband gets it and has even more success.

Cecelia, I have RRMS. I believe any type of MS is ok for Ampyra. I'm on day 10 of Ampyra and feel almost like I did pre-MS. I can walk with out near as much spasticity and have much longer and faster walking. It's definitely worth a try.

Hey guys,

I am so, so excited that Ampyra is working!!!

Question: What kinds of MS do you have? My honeybun has PPMS and I am wondering if it will work for him.

KMS- he has leg cramping and pretty rough foot pain when he spends too much time on his feet. I don't know... same thing?

So... Do you guys have RRMS, SPMS or PPMS?? : )

Cecilia

4 days on Ampyra with no, or very small change in walking or balance. But, my strong tingling and bugs crawling all over feeling is mostly gone. Anyone else notice this? Headaches are pretty constant as well.

Day 6 on Ampyra. Walked on treadmill 0.6miles at 2.5 speed without any foot drop or dragging legs. (previously I could do 0.25miles at 1.5 speed). I could have done more, but I didn't want to pull a muscle. I think I'm going to have to try to run!!!!!

Zinolivia1, My legs get extremely stiff. Was on Baclofen 10mg twice daily and have not cut back to 10mg at bedtime. Currently I have almost no stiffness in my legs since starting Ampyra. I have never had any numbness or tingling in my legs or anywhere else. Today I shopped for quite some time and had no difficulty walking. I almost feel like I did before having MS. Still can't believe it-hope it keeps up! Get on it ASAP-I was scared too because of the seizures but the benefit for me definitely outweighs the risk!!!!!!

I have been on Ampyra for 3 weeks now and a few days ago I did something I have not done in 10 years. I felt really good one night and decided to try to run. It didn't look great but I actually ran about 15 yards in some low cut grass. I did that 4 times while my wife stood there and cried. Like I said it was a little clumsy looking but it felt wonderful. As you all know, every day is a little different and I haven't felt confident in my balance to try it again but I am sure I will soon. I hope and pray you will all be able to get on Ampyra soon and it will help you to do the same. Try it and stick it out for at least a couple of months. Hopefully it will help

My neice also has MS and is wondering if Ampyra helps leg pain (I don't have any pain with my MS so I can't share any experience with her). Does anyone have leg pain/burning and has Ampyra helped that?

Zinolivia1, My friend's ex-husband was in the clinical trials and his dose varied. He took the compounded dose (4-aminopyridine) not the current Ampyra. It was via these trials that the currenty dose of Amypra 10mg every 12 hours was established. I'm on my 4th day and I was able to clean my house for 5 hrs today! (prior to Ampyra I could do 15 minutes max-I'm hopeful this improvement will continue).

I took my first dose last night at 10pm and woke up this morning very dizzy and weak. I'm hoping this will subside as I continue on ampyra. Has anyone else experienced this when they started on the drug?

In response to the wheelchair patient - my friend's ex-husband was wheelchair bound and participated in the 4-aminopyridine drug trials (fampridine). He is now walking!

Took 4 doses of Ampyra, and I can't believe how I can walk. Walking is my main problem-tried the walk aide but didn't really work so well for me. After 4 doses of Amypra I walked over 1/2 mile. After 6 doses I was on my feet most of the day, shopped for 2 hrs and tried on bathing suits! (impossible before). I had a little dizziness the first 2 days but that seems to be going away. I have had a little bit of insomnia, but nothing I can't deal with. I can't believe this-hope it continues!

I took my first Ampyra tablet today and am hoping things improve but my legs would barely move and were extremely stiff! Falling into lots of walls and shaking all over badly.......anyone have similar experience in beginning? I'm wondering if I should continue???

I have been taking Ampyra for 2 weeks now. I have some improvement in balance and walking. Still have a little more back pain than before I took it. Has not helped back spasms yet. Does anyone else have spasms that start in lower back and cause their legs to stiffen and pull up into fetal position? Will this eventually stop. It seems to only happen at night and right now 3-5 timas per night. So far I am happy with the Ampyra and it is well worth the price. I hope all of you get it and have even more success.
