Ampitrex (Ampicillin) is a penicillin antibiotic which can treat certain bacterial infections. According to RxList, it is "used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and E. coli or salmonella infection". That being said, I came across a different article from PubMed titled "The lack of effect of ampicillin plus probenecid given for genital infections with Neisseria gonorrhoeae on associated infections with Chlamydia trachomatis." ...

Basically what I'm getting from this information is that Ampicillin could help to treat gonorrhea, but chlamydia would likely need a different kind of antibiotic to treat it. In both cases, treatment should be sought as soon as possible so that the infection does not progress.

It depends on which STI the person is infected with, this antibiotic may not be appropriate to treat all, thus it should only used if prescribed by one's doctor.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
