how long are amphetamine salts effective in the system in a 40 mg dose,as compared to dextroamp-amphet ER in a 30 mg dose?

Timing is going to be somewhat different for every person, due to their metabolism, however, the half-life of amphetamine is roughly 12-13 hours and is excreteted renallly, with significant portion unaltered. Metabolization takes place mostly in the liver.

The average elimination half-life for d-amphetamine is 10 hours in adults. So you can see here that they are active in your system for a similar length of time before they begin to break down and metabolize.

NOTE: elimination half-life (duration of time until it breaks down) is not dependent upon the dosage; but the dosage you took will determine if one medication leaves your system sooner than the other.

Half-life here means that, say, 13 hours after ingesting amphetamine, half of the active amount will be gone. This doesn't mean that 13 hours later, though, the other half will be gone. At that point half of the remainder will be gone, then another half after the same time interval, and so on, until the drug is eliminated from the body.

I hope that makes good sense. Maybe someone else can try to explain it a little better than I did, if there's any confusion.
