son is 13 months old and 22 lbs he is to take 400 mg /5ml susp 100ml of amox. 1 teaspoon 2xs a day for ear infection is this the correct dosage? ## Hi Jennifer, From what I can find, the usual dose for a child greater than 3 months old (with a mild/moderate ear infection) is (25 mg/kg) per day in divided doses every 12 hours- or (20 mg/kg) per day in divided doses every 8 hours. Is 1 teaspoon twice a day of 400 mg Amoxicillin suspension what your doctor prescribed? If so, I don't see why it wouldn't be correct. Note: All thoughts and opinions expressed are based on my research and should not be mistaken for medical advice. I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist. all medical questions should be answered by a licensed pharmacist or doctor. You can learn more about this drug on the pag...
son is 13 months old and 22 lbs he is to take 400 mg /5ml susp 100ml of amox. 1 teaspoon 2xs a day for ear infection is this the correct dosage? ## For correct dosing, I'd strongly recommend confirming this info with your child's doctor, since instructions can also be very patient specific on a case by case basis. However based on my research, children weighing under 40kg (88lbs) are recommended to have the following dosing regimen: The daily dosage for children is 40 - 90 mg/kg/day in two to three divided doses (but not exceeding 3 g/day) depending on the indication, severity of the disease and the susceptibility of the pathogen. From what I've read, dosing three times daily is associated with enhanced efficacy, thus twice daily dosing is only recommended when the dose is i...

can amox-clav 875 be used for staff infection on the skin? ## Information I was able to gather states that: "Amoxicillin is often the drug of choice for staph infections of the ear, throat and nose, says Rx List. Doctors also order amoxicillin for staph infections of the skin and skin structures, or for lower respiratory infections like bronchitis and pneumonia. For patients with skin infections from beta-lactamase-producing staph, doctors will often order amoxicillin/clavulanate." NOTE: Adults typically take 250 to 500 mg of amoxicillin three times a day, or 500 to 875 mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days, for staph infections of the skin. The above information is referenced from: I hope this helps! ## I was just prescribed exactly what you posted. 875mg 2x day of Amox-Clav for 10 d...
I have been taking it for 5 days to cure my ear infection. I started having upper chest pain and it's not sharp nor consistent. Do I need to worry about it? Two more days to go. ## According to an article on Livestrong.com, it sounds like you may be having an allergic reaction to the medication. Quoted below is the information I could gather on chest pain: "Infrequently, patients taking Amoxicillin Trihydrate, Clavulanate Potassium (Amox Tr K Clv) can develop a severe allergic reaction to this medication. Allergic reaction side effects can become life-threatening and include breathing difficulties, chest pain, dizziness, headache, hives or heartbeat abnormalities. A patient who develops any of these allergic reaction side effects after taking amoxicillin requires immediate emerg...
How long does it stay in your system? I Need to know how long do i need to use a back up methoid of birth control. ## I don't know which brand or type of birth control you are taking, but with the information provided, I'm assuming you are just referring to amoxicillin + clavulanate. Is that correct? The half-life of amoxicillin after the oral administration of amoxicillin + clavulanate potassium tablets is 1.3 hours and that of clavulanic acid is 1 hour. In general, most medical experts agree that it takes up to 5 half-lives for the drug to be completely out of your system. I hope this info helps! ## Have reaction to amox-clav..how long before it goes away
Is this a sulfa base drug ## From what I can this is not a sulfa based drug, as Amoxicillin does not appear to be on the list of sulfonamides I found (only two other antibiotics were listed). I don't know however, if this list is a complete list or partial list of sulfa based medications. For this reason, it may be a good idea to double check with your local pharmacy regarding this pill. The link below offers information about medications that contain sulfa: NOTE: This is the third source I've checked and Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium is not on the list :) I hope this helps! ## Is the rx AMOX/K CLAV 875-125 TAB given for lymphedema?? ## Does AMOX/K CLAV 875-125 TAB have any wheat in the ingredients? I am 12weeks pregnant and 2days ago I started having really bad tooth ache my GP said it could be some kind of infection and gave me Betamox 500mg to take. Is it safe to take this so early in my pregnancy? ## Based on my research, Betamox (amoxicillin) has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. "Animal studies using 10 times the human dose have failed to reveal any evidence of teratogenicity. Although no controlled data in human pregnancy are available, literature reports of adverse fetal effects are lacking. Amoxicillin is only recommended during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk." For more personalized advice however, I'd still encourage you to discuss this with your doctor; who may have also gone through this with other past patients. I hope this helps!
Can an infected tatoo be treated with amoxicillin ## Hi sunny, To answer your question, Amoxicillin can be used to treat "certain" skin infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. However I'd still recommend having it checked out by a doctor to make sure that you're using the most appropriate treatment option at the correct dosage and duration. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin Details I hope this helps!
Is there any difference between this and Amoxicillin for my dog? ## Hi Alexis, Based on my research, Amoxicillin is an antibiotic just like Doxycycline Hyclate, however the dosage for your dog could be very different and should be based on his/her body weight. I have read that Doxycycline is harsher on the gastrointestinal tract than Amoxicillin, so that is something to take into consideration. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin Details You can learn more about this drug on the page for Doxycycline Details I hope this helps!
Is there any difference between this and Amoxicillin for my dog? ## Although both medications have similar indications with regards to the variety of infections they treat, they are still two different types of antibiotics with different chemical structures, side effects, dosages, potency, absorption rates, etc; which all play a significant role in how well your dog may react and respond to each medication. So to answer your question, I wouldn't consider them equal for canines or humans. Doxycycline is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. You can learn more about these drugs on the page for Doxycycline Details and Amoxicillin Details I hope this info helps!
I have a bladder infection that makes my urinating urgent and sometimes uncontrollable. I was given a prescription for smz-tmp to treat it. Like an idiot I started the prescription but never finished it because I was also given amoxicillin to treat an infection in my tooth then panicked cause I was taking both of them at once and I was scared of overdoing it. Now months later I'm having some serious lower back pain and I'm considering finishing both prescriptions in hopes to make a full regimen. Will this work or just cause more problems ## Hi Shaylee, I'm sorry to hear about that, bladder infections are no fun! Seeing as both the medications you mentioned are antibiotics, I'm not sure how that would help with your back pain. I imagine it might cause more problems since ...
I have a bad rash on my penis very itchy. Could Pinaclav be the cause? ## To answer your question, yes, I do believe that Pinaclav could be the cause of that itching. From what I could gather, nlm.nih.gov (MedlinePlus) lists both "severe skin rashes" and "hives" under serious side effects that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Pinaclav contains the active ingredient Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium Details I hope this info helps!
whats the difference between amoxicillin and ic amoxicillin? ## whats the difference between amoxicillin and amoxicillin ic ## There is no difference in the medications. The IC is just used to refer to the manufacturer or distributor, which is often done in Canada. However, they are both Amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic that's used to treat or prevent infections. I have enlargement of lymph nodes, can I use Amox K Clav 500-125? ## @Frank, Even though infections are the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes, it's not necessarily the only cause. For this reason I'd still encourage you to speak with your doctor about diagnosing the cause, before taking an antibiotic (if in fact you end up not needing to take it). In the event that it is an infection, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium (500 mg - 125 mg) does cover a broad spectrum of bacteria, so in my opinion it may be a feasible approach. You can read more on the causes and treatment options for swollen lymph nodes here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003097.htm I hope this helps!
