9 Year old was at dr today for stomach flu. Called in rx to pharmacy. When I arrived home now I see it says 4pills 1 time daily so that would be 2000 mg at once for 10 days.......is that safe ? ## Hello, Kathy! How is your son doing? Why was it prescribed for flu? Antibiotics are only effective at treating bacterial infections, as listed by the FDA, they will not treat the flu, which is caused by a virus. Unless he has developed some type of infection, then it isn't appropriate. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. As to the dosage, that's not too much in a day, though it may cause more side effects than lower dosages, but it is also usually split up and taken 2 to 3 times daily. Have you double c...

My 5 year old weighing at 49. something at the doctor with shoes on was prescribed amoxicillin 400mg/5ml was told to give him 12.5 ml twice a day for 10 days. this sounds like a lot, just wondering is this the usual dosage for a 5 year old his size? ## Hello, Nece! How is your son? Yes, that is a normal dosage for a child his age and weight. For young children, it is dosed according to their weight and the severity of the infection being treated. The FDA lists this medication as being an antibiotic and lists the most common side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have Amoxicillin 500 mg that is a year old is it safe to still take it? ## If it was dispensed in a pharmacy bottle and not in the original factory sealed container, then it starts to break down after about a year and can lose effectiveness. Thus, it may not completely eradicate an infection and you should see your doctor for a new prescription. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Are there any other comments or questions? ## how do i take amoxicilina 500 mg to cure clamidia ## I have amoxicillin 875 mg tab and it's a-year-old can I still use ## My amox-clav expired in July 2014 can I still take it know

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE AMOXICILLIN IF IT IS 4 YEARS OLD ## Hello, Jane! How are you? If it's that old, it would be best to just dispose of it. Medications lose effectiveness over time and with an antibiotic, that can create the risk of it not properly eradicating the bacteria, which could then develop antibiotic resistance. If you need an antibiotic, it would be best to get a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is it safe to take clarithromycin if it expired 2 months ago.

why amc500 pill use in pimples problem. ## @sangita, AMC 500 reportedly contains 500mgs of amoxicillin + 125mgs of clavulanate potassium, which is used for treating a variety of bacterial infections (including skin infections). I don't know if your pimples are the result of a skin infection, but if they are, then that would probably explain why your doctor prescribed it to you. As far as side effects are concerned, are you currently experiencing any symptoms from taking this antibiotic or are you just curious about what potential side effects can happen? Please post back in a little more detail and I'll see what I can do to help!

My son's pediatrician prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg/5ml, 3 teaspoons every 12 hours to treat strep throat. Is this the correct dosage? Sounds like a lot. ## Hello, Suzie! How are you and your son? At his age, according to the FDA dosing instructions, it is actually dosed by weight, so you should follow his doctor's instructions. Possible side effects are listed as including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My boyfriend took amoxicillin a year ago for a infection he did not finish the prescription an now has the same chest infection again and he wants to take the amoxicillin that's left, I want to know if it is safe for him to do this.... ## Hi, Tina! He should see his doctor for a new prescription. The reasons I'm saying that are because if these are just the leftovers from an old prescription for an infection, he may not have enough to fully eradicate this infection, which creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and that can be very dangerous. Plus, after a year from the date they were dispensed to him, they begin to lose effectiveness and that also ups the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Are there any ot...

I give my two year old son his meds and he throw up like 10 min after ## Hello, Tiffiney! How is your son doing? According to the information provided by the FDA, antibiotics can cause nausea, as a side effect, along with dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, the concern, of course, is that he may not be keeping enough down to treat the infection. Have you consulted his doctor? He might need to switch him to a different antibiotic.

I was prescribed two amoxicillins for pneumonia. Amoxicillin 500mg and Amoxicillin /K Clav 875-125. Im suppose to take both twice a day and levofloxacin 750mg once a day. Is this too much antibiotics? ## Hello, Ruth! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you're ill. No, multiple antibiotics are often prescribed, in the case of severe infections, to try to get the bacteria under control, so it can be eradicated as fast as possible. You may, however, experience more severe side effects than when taking only one, such as more severe dizziness, drowsiness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No further questions. Thank you for your response and for your care. Im doing quite well considering. Thanks again! ## You are welcome and I s...

My daughter is 14 yrs old and 120 lbs and 5 ft 9 in. She went to doc this am for strep like symptoms, but it came out neg but doc prescribed liquid amoxicillin (7ml) every 12 hrs. Her throat is feeling worse - could she have the wrong dosage? ## Amoxicillin comes in 125 mg, 250 mg, and 400 mg per 5 cc. The top reasonable dose is 90 mg per Kg, and she is about 55 kg. Amoxicillin is usually given 2 or 3 times per day. So - bottom line I don't think she is in danger of too high a dose. ## @worried, I'm trying to figure out why the doctor even prescribed an antibiotic if the results came back negative for an infection? That just doesn't make any sense logically, unless there's something we don't already know? And with her throat now feeling worse after taking it, I wonde...
