My daughter is 40 lbs and was given amoxicillin 4ml every 8 hrs for tick bite. Is this to much seems like a lot for a 4 year old. ## How much is in that 4mls? I'm sorry, but you didn't include this information, so I'm unable to answer your question. Can you please post back and clarify? For children, however, it is usually dosed according to their weight and the severity of the infection. My Mom is taking amoxicillin- pot clavul 875-125 and she has heart disease. I forgot to check interactions with eliquis she takes at bedtime. ## Hello, Teressa! How are you and your mom? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these two medications, but it's always best to double check such information to be careful. Is her pharmacy aware that she's taking both? If so, they should also have checked and wouldn't have dispensed the antibiotic, if there were any known dangers. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

first it started out with diarrhea, now these awful headaches, my head and my jaws. Is these an allergic reaction to amoxicillin? ## Hello! How are you feeling? No, those are typical side effects of antibiotics, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and non-allergic skin rash. The symptoms of an allergic reaction would include things like trouble breathing, facial or mouth swelling, hives and itching. Is there anything else I can help with?

I would like to know how long after the experation date, does the amoxicillin remain potent and effective ? And when dose amoxicillin become totally ineffective > ## It's really difficult to get a precise answer on this, because it can really be dependent upon storage conditions. For instance, if they were left in the original factory sealed bottle, they're usually actually good for about 3 years. However, once that bottle is opened, so they are exposed to heat, light and moisture, the degradation starts and how fast they degrade and lose potency depends on how much of the elements they are exposed to. If you keep them in a cool, dry, dark place then they'll last longer than if you keep them in your bathroom medicine chest, which is a warm, damp environment. Learn more A...

Not sure what this is... my neighbor gave me one and said it's for pain... ## Hi Nic, Based on the description provided, I've identified your white pill marked "X 32" as Amoxicillin (875mg) + Clavulanate Potassium (125mg); which is NOT used for pain, but rather in the treatment of bacterial infections. Manufactured by: NorthStar Rx LLC You can learn more about this drug on the page for Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium Details In light of this, I would question the legitimacy of your neighbor's word, since this actually has nothing to do with pain management or pain relief unless it is proven to be caused by a serious infection. And if that is the case, you may want to follow up with your doctor before taking random prescription meds that may not do anything for yo...

I was prescribed amoxicillan for strep throat. They told me to take one pill twice daily. The dosage amount is 875mg. How many hours apart do I take one pill twice daily? ## Hello, Libre! How are you? According to the FDA, roughly every 12 hours, though it doesn't have to be exactly precise. For instance, if you take one at 8pm and then don't wake up until 8:30am or 9am, things will still be fine to take the next dose. Side effects for this antibiotic are also listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi I have IBS, so I'm wondering if it's ok to take clonamox for an ear infection.

3 nights ago, I suddenly developed chills on my hands and feet; followed by ache and soreness. Seemed like like sore throat, the pain under my left jaw( right side too but not as painful) with tension headache or migraine( I'm a migraine sufferer) took maxalt melt but didn't work. Nausea and acidic stomach. After vomit twice, I took 2 x 500mg Aspro - headache gone after half hour, but nausea and pain under chin and jaw kept me from sleeping. I found some Roxithromycin and took one 150mg tab on the third day. The pain around my neck, and collarbone abated. It's Easter weekend can't see my doctor till next Tue or Wed (another 2-3days). Should I continue taking the Roxithromycin until I see my doc? I also have some amoxicillin but I try not to mix. Thanks

My child got amoxicillin in the middle of February. It says to throw away March 6 would it be safe to continue using. ## @Daniela, Long term studies from Harvard University as well the LA Times, both determined that many pharmaceutical drugs still remain safe 10-40 years after the listed expiration date. Knowing this, I wouldn't foresee any problems taking something that's only a month past due. I also highly doubt that it would've lost any efficacy in such a short time frame. Further research I've done suggests that many expiration dates are not necessarily "exact", but are rather based upon mere speculation and short term studies. Often times drug companies only evaluate efficacy/safety up to a certain point; and in order to get consumers to continue purchasing...

I started taking Amoxicillin earlier this week for a throat infection. About 2 or 3 days after I started taking it, I started to develop jaw pain that comes and goes. Somebody told me it was just nerve pain. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this while taking Amoxicillin? ## Hey Amanda, sorry to hear about the jaw pain you're having. I don't know if it could be related to nerve damage or not, but I just wanted to inform you that I have come across studies from ehealthme indicating that jaw pain was associated with the use of Amoxicillin in 411 out of 22,270 patients. So although relatively less common, it does appear to be a possibility. Amoxicillin also lists joint pain/inflammation, swollen lymph glands (nodes underneath the jaw), and difficulty with swallowing on...

I started my son's antibiotic today at 10:30am. He is prescribed 1 Amoxicillin 250mg chewable tablet 3 times a day for 10 days. I was curious what are the times to give this to him today, also if I can change the time to 7:30am/3:30-45pm/8-9:30pm tomorrow? He starts back to school on monday morning and I would like to give it to him before school then after school and before bed daily for the remainder of the ten days. Would that be ok? ## Yes, unless the doctor specifically prescribed it as needing to be taken every 8 hours, then you can dose it this way, it doesn't have to be precise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed amox tr-k clv 875mg on March 2, 2015 and been on it 8 days. Took meds yesterday afternoon notice my inside of ears felt hot my inside of nose felt like a burning sensation and my arms felt hot. I called my pharmacy. They told me it usually takes a few days before an allergic reaction starts. I called my doctor she told me to take Benadryl.. I was wondering do I still need to be evaluated by a Doctor. ## Hello, Vette77! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you had. However, that doesn't really sound like an allergic reaction. That usually involves swelling, hives and itchy skin rash. Typical side effects of this antibiotic, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Need to know how much amoxicillin to give my 40 pound kid ## Hello, Al! How are you? You should give them the dosage their doctor prescribed. When under 12, it is usually dosed by their weight and according to the severity of the infection. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. The dosage for a 40 pound child could range anywhere from 360mgs a day in divided doses to 540mgs a day in divided doses. I also strongly urge you not to try to diagnose yourself, because improper use of an antibiotic could result in them developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with?

My son has a horrible cough for days now following an up and down temp. I have a few 500mg of Amoxicillin capsules from my recent dental root canal fun times. Is it alright for me to break the capsule and put a small dosage into his juice/food? He gets bad anxiety at the doctors office I'd like to spare him the upset if it's something I can take care of at home. ## Hello, Ally! How is your son doing? No, that's never a good idea. He may not have an infection, if he does this may not be the appropriate antibiotic to treat it, you could end up giving him too much or too little.. there are just too many risks involved. It would be best to see his doctor for a proper diagnosis and prescription, if necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic and it's ...

I have been taken amoxicillin for my bottom molar for a week now.. Just got finish with the antibiotic... The pain are gone but when I bite down it feel a little funny... My question is do I still need a root canal done ? ## Hello, Nary! How are you? Yes, you still need to see your dentist and have this problem corrected. Otherwise, the infection will just keep returning, because the roots of the tooth are still exposed and it's very easy for bacteria to get in, which will cause another infection and more pain. An antibiotic only treats the bacteria that cause the infection, it doesn't correct the underlying problem with the tooth that allowed the infection to occur. Typical side effects to antibiotics, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-...

My 6mo old has been getting pneumonia almost since birth. I give him his dose religiously and as soon as the tenth day is up, HE HAS IT AGAIN WITHIN A FEW DAYS. Every time I bring him to the Dr they do X-rays and I'm really tired of doing the same thing over every other week and it's only effective when he's actually taking the meds. My question is if the antibiotic says to discard after ten days and it's three days after the discard date is it still ok to give it to him. I have four children so please don't respond with a common sense answer like dress him better, if I put anymore clothes and hats and gloves and socks he would sweat a twin no lie. I really don't understand why he keeps getting it but he too has chronic asthma, born via c-section, and he sweats w...
