Most medications taste awful, unless they are specially formulation to have actual flavor, according to the FDA. In actuality, you shouldn't be letting them sit in your mouth long enough to taste them, you should put it as far back in your mouth as possible, just short of gagging and swallow it immediately with a full glass of water.
The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
