Amoxicillin - Should I Request Hospitalization?

I took Amoxicillin 875 mg twice a day for 7 days. I had to get emergency treatment for hypersensitivity, but I think it would have been worse if I had waited. I was at least three times treated in an emergency room for anaphylaxis shock for an egg allergy. I am diagnosed with symptomatic asthma, especially during an allergy attack. This is my third day after the emergency. I take three Prednisone at once daily. Prescription is for five days. The next day after the ER visit, I felt good in the morning, but did not take my Prednisone. I relapsed badly. Today, 3rd day, I added 50 mg of Benadryl on my own, not prescribed by the ER physician. My breathing seems to be OK, but not normal. Blood pressure is normal, but is a rollercoaster, especially when I take Prednisone. My face and chest are red. No itches on skin, but throat. The reaction intensifies in the heat, short of breath, heart racing. I'm male, 62 years old, in good shape.

Those can be normal side effects of Prednisone, according to FDA reports. You may also experience acne, mood swings, headaches, and weight changes.

I doubt they will hospitalize you for these issues, but the final decision is up to a doctor. Have you consulted your PCP?

What type of hypersensitivity reaction did you experience? How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
