I been sick since Sunday night, Monday at work I broke out in fevers and my right tonsil swelled up quickly. Tuesday I went to the doctors and she told me its a bacterial infection and prescribed me cephalexin 500mg and they gave me a shot of antibiotics I don't know.which kind, Wednesday I return because it gotten worse I got another shot and got prescribed this medicine and some steroids to bring down the swelling, so far no change in anything. I haven't eaten anything in 4 days my urine smells of pure medicine it hurts to swallow and I'm really considering going to the ER. Would this medicine work? I lost 7 pounds already I don't think this is healthy at all

How are things now? Has there been any improvement?

It can take awhile for a sever infection to respond to an antibiotic. A throat infection can be especially problematic, because you are always swallowing and breathing, so it's constantly being irritated.

You need to eat, warm soups should be easier to swallow and not as harsh on your throat, warm liquids will also be best for drinking. Stay away from creamy soups or milk, because that tends to create phlegm.

You also need to calm down a little and give the antibiotics a few days to work. After taking them for 24hours, if they are working you shouldn't see any worsening of the swelling and then you should start to see improvement within 3 days.

I had tonsil trouble for years, until they finally had to remove them, so I know how miserable it is, but going to the ER that fast is really not going to be of any benefit, unless it's getting worse again.
