Information I was able to gather states that:

"Amoxicillin is often the drug of choice for staph infections of the ear, throat and nose, says Rx List. Doctors also order amoxicillin for staph infections of the skin and skin structures, or for lower respiratory infections like bronchitis and pneumonia. For patients with skin infections from beta-lactamase-producing staph, doctors will often order amoxicillin/clavulanate."

NOTE: Adults typically take 250 to 500 mg of amoxicillin three times a day, or 500 to 875 mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days, for staph infections of the skin.

I was just prescribed exactly what you posted. 875mg 2x day of Amox-Clav for 10 days for staph of the skin. I started with a Sytemic Fungal Infection and was on and specific fungi antibiotic for a month. Now at my check up I mentioned how my skin got dry patches and bad breakouts (Im 42) in the last week of the treatment. So a week after being cleared on the fungi now I have a bacterial infection. I have lost about 20lbs ( I was healthy before this) and now I am afraid of another round of antibiotics. I did double check with my GI Dr and they confirmed I need to take this because it can turn into serious lung infections and be passed on to my family so Im going to do it. Just wanted to let you know this was the info I wanted to find to be sure I was getting what I needed, med-wise. Will start it tonite. Comment if you think Im doing the wrong thing, please.

My nose is red and swollen. How long does it take the medicine to working. I just thought I had an ingrown hair in nose at first. I believe I contracted it at work cleaning for resident that has had these infections where his whole hand swells up. I was not aware of this and I love the residents but am How afraid to give hugs anymore.
