Amox-clav 500mg- Day 41+ Of A Severe Chronic Sinus Infection And Counting.
UpdatedI am 21 and am on day 41+ of a severe chronic sinus infection. I say plus because I was taking the medication Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia pain before my counting started and I believe the symptoms I experienced from Cymbalta were so intense that it hid the infection since my "Day 1" is from a trip to the ER and I've read it takes awhile for you to end up in the hospital from sinus infections. Also, it is still going on.
My doctor originally thought my symptoms -intense pressure in head-pain in both ears-extreme sensitivity to light and noise-and INSANE throbbing pain like a knife stabbing the right side of my head randomly for minutes at a time- were the start of chronic migraines or a little sinus infection, however, was wrong after I got my Brain MRI results back last week showing A LOT of built up mucas behind my eye and cheeks.
Has anyone experienced this long of a sinus infection and/or has got great relief from any specific medication for sinus infections? I'm now on Day 3 of Amox-Clav 500mg for the second time in the past month, first time using every pill as instructed for 10 days straight that did not help. This was before the MRI. I really want to get better but am still not getting much of any relief. I have missed a lot of work due to light and noise sensitivity, which makes it tough since I am a Data Administrator. I am wearing sunglasses as I type this and need help. Please comment. Thank you!!

Hello, Alexx! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you've been so miserable.
However, 3 days of the antibiotic really isn't enough to see a big improvement yet with that severe of an infection. It's likely to take a bit longer.
Learn more Augmentin details here.
For regular infections that are caught very fast, you should see improvement in 3 days, but when they are that bad, it can take awhile.
Have you contacted your doctor? They may have some ideas of what you can do to help with the other symptoms.
Hello Verwon! Thank you for the response and Augmentin link! I have been reading else where too that the medication generally starts helping within three days, which was making me nervous. I am glad you pointed out it may take longer since mine is more severe. The medication is probably working it just has not been long enough yet. Hoping by the end of these two weeks there is improvement.
When my doctor prescribed my first set of Amox-Clav (10 days worth) he also prescribed Oxycodone for the pain. However, it is a hit or miss whether it temporarily relieves or increases the pressure around my temples, nose, and eyes. For that reason, I have not been taking it.
My second set (14 days worth) he said to ride out for these two weeks and, essentially, to sleep when it becomes to much to handle. Would you recommend massage or acupuncture for tension in my temples, neck and shoulders or could that have a reverse effect?
I plan on calling my doctor again later today for update and more tips.
