Went for my new prescription of Percocet today. Saw a P/A. Was given a totally new script: Alvogen Oxycod/ACET 10mg/325mg. Lower left bottom yellow label states 10mg oxycodone HCI is equivalent to 8.9637mg of oxycodone. This medicine is not working at all. Whats wrong?

There can be differences from one generic medication to another, as was granted by the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, they are allowed to differ by as much as plus or minus 20% in the amount of the active ingredients. This was done to help bring generics to market faster and the FDA considers it an acceptable therapeutic window.

Most people never notice a difference, however, some people are very sensitive to any change in their medication, or they may notice a difference, if they've been taking the same one for a long period of time. Thus, my best guess would be that this one is a bit lower in the amount of the active ingredients, than the prior one you were taking.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

Since the differences are so minuscule, most people adjust in about a week, or so, but if you don't, you should consult your doctor for assistance.

Is there anything else I can help with?
