Will this OTC sleep aid show positive on a drug screen for a new job?

Hi Tony,

With over-the-counter medications, you generally don't need to worry about drug tests. However, because false positives are so common now-a-days, I would actually suggest letting the lab know what you're taking prior to the test, just to play it safe. It may not even matter though, because Alteril contains natural plant based ingredients, which to my knowledge, shouldn't even trigger anything.

I'd be interested in knowing how your drug screening went, if you passed with flying colors or not?

My pain management doctor does regular drug screens (6-8 in the last couple years). Alteril did show up on my latest drug screen as Restoril (Temazepam). It had never shown up on previous screens. Possibly they had a different lab running the test or this one was done earlier in the morning? Not sure why it showed up once and not any other time.

Alteril showed up as a barbiturate when I was tested at my Dr.'s office. I'm on suboxone and get drug tested often. Alteril is the only med I take besides suboxone, so one of the ingredients must test positive for barbiturates.
