is it safe to take kastair (before bedtime) and alnix plus syrup (2x a day) for months for children 7 years old? my sons pedia gave it to him......How long can he safely take it? Thanks!

Hi,

I felt the same worries for my 20mo old child.she had a cough and colds for two weeks straight and her pedia prescribed cetirizine twice a day and one montelukas at night for that two-week period. And after that two weeks ,her colds and cough still didnt go away and so her pedia prscrbed again cterizne she said that my baby should take it for three months and montelukas for another two weeks. Now,its been a month since her cough and colds started and there still there. Although, her regular routine is not affected, still, it worries me that she had her cough and colds for a month already. Also worried of her taking the medicines for quite a long time. Any other possible cure? Are cases like this really something like allergy, cause that is more or less the diagnosis of the pedia.

Hi! My son is 3 months old. He is suffering from cough for a week. His pedia prescribed Alnix 0.5ml 2 times a day. I accidentally gave him 3 times (6 hours interval). What will be the effect of that? Thank you.

Kastair contains the active ingredient Montelukast, which is used to treat allergy symptoms.

It is recommended for children as young as 6 months old.

Alnix Plus contains the active ingredient Cetirizine, it is an antihistamine that is used to treat allergies.

It is also approved for use in children.

Since this are both used to treat allergies and are similar medications, the side effects are similar, they can both cause: nausea, drowsiness and dry mouth.

As to how long he should take it, many people with allergies have to take these types of medications for most of their lives. If you're concerned about prolonged use, you should really discuss it with his doctor.
