Almost Out Of Oxycodone Several Days To Go (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have an appointment with my pain manage Dr. in 5 days. They do count my pills, I get 120 20mg. monthly. I will need to have 10 pills left when I see them. So ahead of time I set those aside. But I've had an unusually painful month, and realized that I was going to run out. I called my Dr.'s office and ask if they would okay 5 pills a day when needed instead of the prescribed 4. They said no, and that I should try to stretch out my dose. Well that hasn't worked. I now have 3 pills left. What would likely happen if I took 2 or 3 pills out of the 10 that I set aside? Oh yeah I'm in NC if it matters.

If you signed a contract with your dr, you need to see what it says regarding this. Depending on how strict your dr is, if you don't have the correct number of pills when you see him, you could be discharged. You were told to not increase the number of tablets a day. Doing that when you were told not do is grounds for discharge from most drs.
First I would look at the pain management contract you have and if it states that this is a requirement. I also go to a pain management clinic and if I have to increase the amount if pills I take b/c of the pain I have to call the doctor and tell them way. What I would probably do is cut the remanding pills that you have left. And also try to take some more Motrin, if you're not already taking it. But stuff happens, and situations occur which ends up causing you more pain. And being a pain management clinic they should understand this as well. If you have to dip into your 10 pills, be honest with your doctor about why, what happened that cause more pain. If you have tried other things to manage it other then pills some docs can be strict, and some are very understanding. I have been in your shoes before and know that feeling, just try to stay calm and quiet as much as you can. The more stressed you are about it will subject yourself to bring on more pain. I hope your next appt. goes well!
You have been very helpful, with a lot of good info. I just wanted to say thanks.
I'm Not Sure About NC. But In Florida Where I Live If Your Doctor Calls You In For A Pill Count & you are Short My Doctor Will Stop Seeing you. It's The Same As If You Fail A Test. With My Doctor They Only Do Pill Counts if They Have Some Reason To Believe That Your Not Taking The Full Amount The Doctor Is Giving you. Like If Someone Called Him And Said You Were Selling Some, You Can Blame The DEA For All This. If you Have Been Going To This Doctor For Years Just Be Honest And Tell How Badly Your Pain Has Been Not Just For This Month But For The Last 3 or 4 months and tell How Hard It's Been. Made He Will Increase the amount. Good Luck
I would be extremely hesitant to dip into the pills you set aside. There are many places, often clinics people have been going to for years, drop people like hot potatoes the moment their contract is even slightly broken. You may not have any notice whatsoever of this. I would consider myself putting myself out of medical treatment and in the situation that no other doctor will take me too if you don't have those 10 pills when you go. I would do anything and everything, including suffer, in order to have those 10 pills when I go to the doctor. I personally know two people who were dropped from their pain management doctor without any notice, who cannot find anybody else to take them. They are totally miserable people. You'll suffer much more in the long run if you don't.
