Allergy To Morphine, Side Effects And What Else Would I Be Allergic To

After an ectopic pregnancy which burst which led me to almost bleed to death, my Dr. told me that I had a deathly reaction to Morphine and that I needed to wear a bracelet that says I am allergic to it. I don't know what kind of reaction I had, as I was in very bad condition and in the hospital for quite a long time. What kind of reaction could morphine have caused, and are there other medicines that I should be cautious of?

If it was that severe, it was most likely an allergic reaction that led to anaphylactic shock, but you'd need to check with the hospital to be sure. However, that's usually the worst type and the one they want you to wear a bracelet to warn about, because it could be fatal and subsequent exposures to the allergen tend to worsen each reaction.

Yes, there are other medications that you may react to, I can't possible list them all for you. What you need to do is make sure that your doctor and pharmacy know of the allergy. That way, they can check for possible problems for you. For instance, once Morphine is listed as an allergy with your pharmacy, they will refuse to fill a prescription for any possibly dangerous drugs that you shouldn't take, instead they will contact the appropriate doctor to ask for an alternative medication.
