Allergic To Penicillin - Can I Take Amoxicillin?

I was given something to counteract what I took when I overdosed and came up with hives. I've been told I now have an allergy to penicillin. Which was 16 years ago. Can I take amoxicillin as I have a throat infection?

Hives are the symptom of an allergy, not an overdose.

As to the Amoxicillin, there is a chance you may discover that you are also allergic to it, people allergic to one medication tend to eventually discover they are also allergic to some others. The FDA lists the possible signs of an allergic reaction as including nausea, severe dizziness, swelling, trouble breathing, rash and hives.
