Is Alinia an antibiotic? Can you still be having diarrhea off and on after being on it for 4 weeks, my doctor would like me to stay on it for up to 8 weeks for parasite. I have had a number of instances with cramping and diarrhea but not all the time.

Alinia is used to treat the diarrhea associated with a parasitic infection, unfortunately, its most common side effect is diarrhea, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include headache, nausea, and stomach pain.

You should finish your full course of treatment, being careful to remain hydrated, then the diarrhea should stop, once your treatment is finished.
