Does anyone drink beer or other alcohol while taking this? I start on it tonight, increasing every 5 days to 900 mg total a day. I'm curious as to how much alcohol can be tolerated and if there are any reasons to avoid it completely. I like my Budweiser. Thanks for any input.

I dont have problems with gabapentin and drinking. I don't drink heavily - but a drink or two once in a while - - seems find with no problems for me. I would not drive of course - - one time i over did it, and it didn't seem to harm me. I had a driver, slept well, got up in morning and felt fine.

I was on 900mg a day, and loved my wine. I drank 2 bottles a week without any side effects. In the past few months I've stopped drinking for other reasons.

I take 900mg a day and if I have more than three alcoholic drinks I start having problems with memory/speech but it's not too bad but what is... my balance is off but I don't notice until I fall. It's happened twice and it's scary because you don't think you have a problem walking and then all of a sudden you miss a step or your leg doesn't move as fast. Also, after drinking I can't sleep well it's like you can't turn off your thinking. Your brain won't sleep. I only drink socially so I'm going to limit myself to one drink.

Don't drink while taking any kind of meds, my 53 year old husband suddenly died while taking this poison. A message to all you drinkers get your heart checked, he had an enlarged heart we did not know about this problem which was caused from alcoholism.

Don't drink while taking this, if you are an alcoholic have your heart checked. I lost my 53 year old husband to cardiomyopathy caused by alcoholism. No doctor ever checked his heart and his death was sudden, don't not drink while taking any kind of meds.

I just started taking 900mg a couple weeks ago. I had a horrible day a couple days ago where my head felt like it was going to explode from the pressure. My doctor cut the dose to 100 twice a day and 300 at night. Seems to help.

First of all you are on Gabapentin that your Dr. perscribed to help for seizures, or depression, or any types of pain and a array of conditions. I don't know what you are being treated for but you should take the medication to get well. Be more responsible about drinking alcohol with any medication. Alcohol is a depressant so you are defeating the purpose of the medication. Talk to your Dr. about quitting the alcohol instead of mixing it with Gabba. Big d

Yes this drug you have to watch what you drink I did drink on this and I got a very upset tummy ,,not good but one of my other friends would drink few on it but she's was okay but I would say no drinking ,,she's not on it now ,,as it made all mind blowing like myself it kills the pain but What it does to your head is another story makes you forget and just talk strange at times ,,I came off with in a week but I hadn't been on it months ... Don't like the drug in the states ,, they were trying to band it hope it helps there's other. Tonunstand about it ,,my mother is 87 she's now comeing off this drug slowlyb

Hello there, I think one doesn't hurt but I had about 3. Rum Coke and I woke up in the night with a very upset tummy and loose bowels. Not good. One is fine... Hope it helps.

Hi Im on gabapentin 1800mg a day and I was on 2400. The dosage had to be lowered because it was affecting my speech and my memory. I don't drink alcohol as I was told that because this med is also used for seizures it could have a reverse reaction and cause anyone to have a seizure. MY QUESTION IS DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS CHALK AS AN INGREDIENT IN GABAPENTIN? I can't seem to find an answer on that.

My husband takes this medicine and on occasion has had a beer or two. Sometimes when he is taking it he slurs his speech. Do you slur your speech when you are on only the medicine or does alcohol do that?

I gradually increased my gaba dose up 2 the max, 3600mg/day. I hv skin-grafted buttocks due 2 an accidental burn... Sorry 4 any visual u got, lol. I. Also take 40mg Vicodin as well. It all helps some but basically confined 2 a chair as I HAVE 2 hv pressure on it. I even sleep in chair. So, 2 answer your?, I did hv trouble working my dosage up that high (esp. 600 to 900 per dose). But I DO drink. Daily. It does, as the painkiller btl 'warns' me, "enhance" the effect of the drug, lol. It does not seem 2 interact w/ the gaba at all. My only caution is that if ur on high doses of gaba, make sure not 2 overlap doses at all- I set 4 daily timers each day based on time of 1st dose & never go less than 4 hrs between doses

I was on Gabapentin for a very brief and unhelpful time. And whenever I would drink I'd get increasingly belligerent. I would be argumentative and snappish. I was never physically violent. But something majorly bad was happening to me. I stopped and my best friend noticed. She told me about what I had done, how I'd behaved, and spoken to her a couple of times. And I only vaguely remembered a part of it. Wasn't me at all. Although I do feel there were some deep-seated things that I was repressing and/or compartmentalizing which is why I was taking things out on her to begin with. I've always been a happy drunk and someone for whom alcohol is a stimulant as I have a paradoxical reaction to it, but this was insane. Never again!

Your probably gonna live. Rats were able to take 49 grams of the stuff and survive. Don't play with your meds and drink anymore.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: Acute, life-threatening toxicity has not been observed with gabapentin overdoses of up to 49 g ingested at one time. In these cases, double vision, slurred speech, drowsiness, lethargy and diarrhea were observed. All patients recovered with supportive care.

Gabapentin can be removed by hemodialysis. Although hemodialysis has not been performed in the few overdose cases reported, it may be indicated by the patients clinical state or in patients with significant renal impairment.

Reduced absorption of gabapentin at higher doses may limit drug absorption at the time of overdosing and, hence, reduce toxicity from overdoses.

An oral lethal dose of gabapentin was not identified in mice and rats given doses as high as 8 000 mg/kg. Signs of acute toxicity in animals included ataxia, labored breathing, ptosis, hypoactivity, or excitation.
