Afraid To Take Levothyroxine Because Of Reviews (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've just been prescribed Levothyroxine 75mcg. I've been reading all the horrible reviews and am afraid to take it. I didn't have any symptoms of hypothyroidism except being overweight. I went to the dr for something totally different. I was overdue for routine blood work. Came back as this: TSH was 75.320, T4 free below normal 0.49, antibody 2250, T3 normal. I'm getting a biopsy on a nodule on Monday. Dr wants me to start on 75mcg Levothyroxine. I went the internet and have read horror stories. I don't have any symptoms of hashimotos thyroiditis (my diagnosis). In fact my symptoms mimic hyper insomnia, caffeine sensitive. I work 3rd shift. I've read the best time to take it is at night before bed. My pharmacist says in AM 30min before other meds. Neither of these times work for me. I take an acid reducer before work, and my other routine meds after work before bed in the morning! I take several other meds including a multivitamin. What should i do? I'm scared to take it. My dr says i might not realize that I've been feeling bad until i start taking the med and start feeling good. Well, the reviews are not saying that. I rarely see a good review. I'm 40. I'm new to all this, really don't understand t3/t4 & all the other jargon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been sitting on this prescription for 2 days..afraid to start it. Especially knowing I'll take it the rest of my life?

Thank you for responding. Yes I reluctantly started taking it. So far no side effects but it's only been 2 weeks. But it hasn't made me feel any better either. I'm a little more optimistic than before. And you're right! All meds have side effects and I'm learning that most people only leave reviews on things they are not happy with. I rarely see good reviews. Hoping for the best!
I took that for years. Finally was given the non generic. What are the side effects?
Known side effects are hair loss, insomnia, rapid heartbeat. I dont know because im afraid to take it because of all the horrible things im reading online. Did u have bad side effects?
All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, others that this medication can cause are listed by the FDA as possibly including nausea, headache, mood swings, and weight changes.
However, not everyone experiences all the side effects and some people don't experience any. The only way to find out what effect it will have on you is by trying it.
Have you started taking it, yet?
