It isn't just so you can read, it helps people focus. Though it may seem odd, such stimulants have the opposite of their usual effect in such people and help them calm down and concentrate. However, if someone has narcolepsy or shift work sleep disorder, it can help them stay awake.

The FDA warns that such medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and anorexia.

Crystal, the active ingredient is different. Ritalin contains Methylphenidate, so it's very similar and used to treat the same conditions, thus you can't take both.
