Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 14) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?
Mallinckrodt generic Adderall, in my opinion, of all generic companies, is the absolute worst. Avoid this manufacturer. I reported them to the FDA for lack of efficacy.
In reply to Izzy on Teva and to Cheryl on Sandoz. Izzy, they (Teva) did have a great product (through the purchase of a company whose name eludes me at the same time they bought Barr) about 10 yrs ago but either reformulation or lack of quality control or both have changed it a lot and not for the better. Sandoz was my number one (and still is) until all the chain pharmacies here (north of DFW in TX) stopped carrying and stopped special orders. "Everyone" except Walgreens (Teva) started stocking only Core, Malkinkodt, etc. (lowest cost for them) about a year ago. Tried them (I'm 60 w/inattentive and two "kids" the same and have done research, my livelihood before other medical probs stopped that, for years) and either no effect or worse. Finally went to a small local family pharmacy (Community Pharmacy on Justin in Lewisville for anyone in this area) and they stock said they'd continue to stock Sandoz 30mg IR (can't afford the XR from Shire or Teva). Yay! As I mentioned in another post, if was wonderful feeling layers of brain sludge lift and to feel focused, clear and motivated again.
In reply to Cheryl concerning Sandoz being produced by the "original", Shire; that's great to know and explains a lot. I couldn't figure out why Teva/Barr wasn't producing a consistently good IR when their XR is supposed to be so good. I knew Shire was only producing XR after selling IR rights years back but again, couldn't afford it w/high deductible insurance. As for CorePharma users, maybe they've reformulated and tightened up quality but for me and many, it was crap (last used 9 months ago). Experience really seems to be divided but they either had no effect or made me a zombie. For those being introduced to Mylan's IR through CVS and soon, other chains: I haven't tried it and won't. Mylan is a profit-only company. That's their first and only concern as can be seen in recent news about their massive price increases (from $50 per dose to $300+) for the generic (no competition) EpiPen which is a literal lifesaver for many kids and adults with lifethreatening allergies. That increase happened over about 6 years and the CEO is super-proud (she's earning 8X more in the meantime). Great if you're a Mylan shareholder, sucks if you or your kid's life depends on it and you've no or limited (high deductible) insurance.
My guess is they'll try to outdo CorePharma on the price side to pick up more chain contracts and market share and keep the quality low. Problem for "us" is that the FDA, the Feds, the media, many Drs., Psychs, Pharmacists, and patients think all generics are basically the same and equivalent to the original. As many of us have known for a long time, that isn't the case. If I remember right, the FDA allows up to a 20% variation in the formulation which (even if the actual is half that) is huge in something as variable as brain chemistry. No problem in my prostate meds or many other generics but they don't "get it" for something many don't believe is real in the first place. Someday I hope that blood testing and/or other methods of diagnosis will take the guesswork out of it and also provide for individual needs (my AD"H"D and my associated co-morbidities are not your ADHD and co-morbids, if any, and my daughter's is not either, etc. etc.). But we're not even close on something universal and cheap. Sooo, we do what we can to remain functional.
Don't forget to "take a break" from your meds, no matter which one works for you. Effectiveness always goes down over time if you don't manage things (or remember to manage them in my case :). Good luck to all and like others have said, file complaints and keep posting your experiences (jokers and trolls not included). This system only responds to loud squeaky wheels served up in mass quantities. Also, if you're of voting age, this election will be huge. Don't sit it out. There isn't a great choice and a "moral" vote is a luxury for another time. That's life for now. Hold your nose and pick the one who will damage the least and knows the current system and hopefully gain us some small wins. Nuff said.
LOL SarahAda! Although it's really not funny but your suggestion is. ;-)
You can submit an FDA Medwatch about your side effects, but don't expect any changes any time soon, if at all. FDA already accepted their/Teva data, and it will take a lot of serious adverse events reported before they pay any attention to it.
Look for generic Adderall by Sandoz/Eon. Mostly positive results from their meds. Teva -- I stay away from them and request another generic manufacturer. I think they are the largest generic company in the world, but I don't know how, except for the fact that they probably use the cheapest active and inactive ingredients they can find and the pharmacy distributors love that!
Kim...who are you to tell a person why their medication is not working? That is just silly. Who do ya work for? FDA or Teva. People are losing jobs, homes, cars because they are receiving a pharmaceutical product that is not effective in control of indications for use. Teva has been doing this for years..it is all over the media. Please don't minimize another persons pain/frustration with a pharmaceutical system that allows manufactures to do their own independent testing...the FDA is not regulating them..they regulate themselves. This is a dangerous problem that deserves prompt attention
Made complaint with FDA about football shape orange oval 30mg IR ...
Two weeks to go, no new updates damn....
I even take 3,000mg of antacid calcium supplement 10mins prior to my dose, with this teva bullahit I must take my full daily dose at once 60mg (30mg/twice daily) an even with the antacid it works for maybe 45mins
Going back to pinks, seems they love switching formulas an ripping is patients off any chance they get
Anyone please make complaint with FDA about problems, takes 5mins. We must stand up or nothing will change !
Teva has been changed. My pharmacist told me the company including the name were sold. He described my symptoms: tired, queasy, no energy. He said he has reported 25 cases to the FDA. I have taken them for years & I noticed right away. Will try Cora Pharma. But the old Teva is no more.
Yes I do believe it would be a very long process and possibly fruitless, Edward to take on drug companies and pharmacies, etc., although the pharmacist at Walgreens did tell me that they are obligated after a certain number of complaints are reported to investigate the situation if you contact a drug company directly and she highly recommended that I do so. Unfortunately at this point I am functioning so far below my norm that I am unable to even think about anything more complex than asking the pharmacist what happened and what I can do about it. And of course the disbelief that comes along with these kinds of claims doesn't help. At this point I have contacted my doctor's office and left a message asking if it would be possible to turn over the remainder of my prescription to the office in exchange for a prescription for the same amount that I can fill using another brand. I have a feeling that the answer will probably be no and quite honestly after reading the comment just prior to that to mine from someone who feels that the same medication that I feel is ineffective literally providing no feeling of lift or focus he complains is too strong for him. Of course the pounding heart sensation could be confused with something being too strong, because I do experience that with this most recent prescription but that is in the absence of any mental clarity or any other a positive effect. I did wonder if it might be too strong myself because of that and adjusted the dose down but again no mental clarity, no physical lift, just a headache and a pounding heart so I do not feel that the issue is that it is too strong. I have adjusted it up and down and in this case with this particular Teva 20 milligram pill I am convinced that it is simply not effective at all. But with our different impressions and descriptions I can see to an extent why the pharmacist and doctors are so confused by our input. I am curious as to what symptoms the person who felt that the Teva was too strong did or did not experience and whether or not they tried adjusting the dose. Anyway at this point I am just so frustrated because my life is a mess right now without this medication and I just want to function normally again so I'm praying that the doctor's office consents to giving me a replacement script for the difference so that I can get on with my life. I have done my best to try to just forget about it but there are so many little things that just don't get done, followed through with, whatever, and I realize that I'm just wasting my time. And I have no idea what brand I should even ask for now if I do get a new prescription. Right now I feel like I can't deal with anything and two weeks ago I truly felt like I was getting things together for the first time in years this just stinks.
I am new to this site; however, was doing research to find out why my 40mg a day of Adderall has not been as effective as it once was. I went into the pharmacy and asked many questions and found out that they used to give me Impax and now i take this worthless Teva. I knew there was something not working with my current dose for the past 3 months and even made notes when it started. That same time I was switched to a different supplier. TEVA is worthless!
Peachish/orange, Oval shaped,
b973 mark for Teva 30mg IR.
Teva used to make an "authorized generic" which is a nearly identical formula to the brand name medication or even made by the original brand name producer, as opposed to a regular "generic" which I'm finding only needs to be similar to the brand name in the same way a bus a is similar to a lawnmower. "They both have a motor and some wheels so they must both do the same thing."
Teva gave up the authorized generic formula as part of the deal to buy Actavis, a company that faced regular recalls because their generic couldn't even pass as something you could legally call an Adderall knock off, even by the lax standards generic drugs are judged by.

I am confused on what to do also. My Teva 30 is not working for me.
Has anyone had their prescription filled with the Prasco generic brand for Adderall XR? I take 30 mg and I just started on this script four days ago. There is not the usual cognitive improvement -- none actually! I'm just my natural unmedicated foggy and scatterbrained self. And I had the pleasure of paying $95 for this experience! While the Prasco XR did nothing for my brain, within the first hour of taking it each morning I've had a sense of impending doom, with slight heart palpitations and I feel that my blood pressure is rising. That only lasts a short while thankfully, but then as the day progresses I get a massive headache and am very irritable and tired. I also feel depressed and discouraged, as normally generic Adderall XR greatly helps me to have the motivation and wherewithal to carry out my daily responsibilities. I get plenty of sleep, exercise and eat a super healthy diet, so that is not the problem. My last prescription was unfortunately Mylan because I forgot to ask what brand they had before I filled it, and as crappy as that brand is, it did help me focus and concentrate some till lunchtime at least, and it didn't make me feel physically awful like this Prasco brand. I have been on most all of the Adderall XR 30 generic brands over the years that I've been prescribed this drug. I have had batches that have been ineffective before, but only one other time it caused the disturbing physical symptoms I have experienced now, and that was with the Activas XR brand a couple of years ago. Now I am wondering -- since (as I understand it from news articles) Teva is no longer selling it's brand -- it is selling the Activas brand -- and Prasco is now selling the "authorized generic" Teva brand, perhaps what I now have in hand is actually Activas. The capsules appear to be Teva's though but as far as what's inside, I never opened an Activas capsule in the past to see if the medication looked the same as Teva's so I can't compare the actual medication appearances. I suppose what I have is Teva XR and not Activas XR, but with all the pharma corporate gyrations and recalls of the past year, I feel like I'm entitled to a conspiracy theory. Please let me know of your experience with the Prasco brand generic Adderall XR, and if it had the same effect as the Teva brand you have taken in the past since they are supposedly one and the same now. FYI, I believe that if you get an Activas prescription, the brand would be listed with the pharmacist as "Teva/Activas" or just "Activas", whereas, Prasco is just listed as Prasco, but it is supposedly the old Teva (prior to Activas acquisition). Thanks!
I just completed FDA report about my Adderall 30 distributed by Teva no longer works and in fact causes increase in tiredness. Not sure where to go since I have used the same pharmacy for years.
I totally agree. Sara Ada, you are 100% correct and this isnt the only company it seems. I had the last two refills that was so ineffective, I feel like I am getting placebo medicine. I. Notified my Lead Pharmisust, apparently I was not the only one complaining, therefore my Pharmacist said he would no longer order from that mfr, and would use another co if possible so we the customerd can now have a different "unbrand" from another manufacturer.
It's insane. The filers or something is 100% different. They're so hard to break which wasn't the case before. I'm sleepy 1,5h after taking 30mg IR
Any recommendations of another brand?
I talked to my pharmacist and was told my Adderall come from same place for the last year and no changes. He suggested I send message to Pharmacore since that is where the Teva Adderall is manufactured from. I tried to find the Pharmacore page to send a message and no luck with even finding a page to get their contact information to send email. I'm not getting my Rx filled from them again.
Me too. It sucks. I filled IR and it was no good. Waited a month for new script and tried XR. Two doc visits and two scripts $400. Neither worked. I even used two different pharmacies. I informed Walmart and CVS but they could care less. They got my money and I got meds that don't work. I'll be ready for the legal action against teva. You can't treat people this way without consequences. Walmart and CVS and 80% of pharmacies in my area use the same distributor and it's all teva according to CVS. You can't find out who uses a different brand because it's controlled and pharmacies won't tell you over the phone. Pathetic.
Unfortunately the quality control for Teva is just not great. Different pills in the same bottle have different levels of efficacy. These days many of the main Adderall generic manufacturers are based overseas. Aurobindo is manufactured in India. Teva is manufactured in Palestine. Corepharna is manufactured in China and India.
Very few brands are made in the US. Sandoz is one of them though.

This is where you report it. If the link doesn’t work google FDA medwatch form 3500B
Re: JT (# 495)
Yes!! I had been taking the Aurobindo ones for months until this last script and CAN'T BELIEVE the difference btw the pink round tablets (good) and orange oval ones (terrible).
