Adderall Danger

My husband is 48 years old. He has adhd problem since he was a kid. Last 7 years his phyciatrist prescribed him Adderal 30mg which helped him a lot to focus and etc, and eventually it helped him a lot in his career. He would have never succeed in his profession without those pills. Last year he was going through mid-life crisis, his father died-he started abusing those pills. Then he became tolerant to them and switched to methamphetamine for one month. After spending 1 month in rehab and being unemployed for 4 months and clean for now-he is trying to find another job, and now he says he can't be productive without adderall-he can't focus on anything, even writing his CV. I don't know what to do. I see he really has ADHD, and he can't be productive without those pills, but also i am worried of him start taking them again. He tried an alternative drug for Adhd called Stratera, but it did not help him. What is your opinion of him going back on Adderall? Thank you.

To be honest, since he already had a problem with abusing it and has been in rehab, most doctors aren't going to be willing to prescribe it for him. It is a controlled substance that has addictive potential, so there's a big risk of him having problems with it, again.

There are other safer medications he can try, so he needs to consult a doctor to see what they advise he try next.

Husbands story sounds like mine. Went to rehab. For me not being productive in finishing a task is depressing and frustrating for myself and family. Hard for me to stay focused. I refuse to live like that. My doctor, after trying different meds, put me on Wellbutrin 300mg and Amphetamine Salts 60 mg daily. They work for me. They are not perfect, but help a lot. If I have to take them the rest of my life or become addictive so be it. I'm not going though my life feeling depressed. I want to live life, see it, feel it, and be in the present with family and freinds
