Adderall Backorder (Page 9) (Top voted first)

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Depending on your insurance. It might be that your insurance will only pay for the lower costs generics. If the pharmacy has a lower cost generics, The pharmacist has to use it. If they are out of the lower cost generic. Then the pharmacist can fill your prescription with a more expensive generic.

Having your doctor write the name of the manufacturer is the only way around it. But, if the pharmacy is out of the generic from that manufacturer. You cannot get it filled with another generic without your doctors authorization.

Fillers and binders vary between manufacturers. Fillers and binders can affect how a medication is absorbed. The actual amount of active ingredients in a generic can vary. For example, if a generic says it contains 10 mg active ingredients. I can actually contain 8 mg-12 mg active ingredients. When a Brand says it contains 10 mg active ingredients. It contains 10 mg active ingredient.

Yes from Denver. I talked to a few different pharmacies today and the takeaways are that the 20mg are on back order at most places and have been for weeks. One pharmacist said that as a result now the 10mg are running low so she didn’t recommend i go get a new script for 10s; go for the 30s. (My ‘script is for two and a half 20 mg/day, total of 50 mg/day) I did find one Walmart pharmacy today that had 20s in stock, I’m picking up on Monday.

I used to live in Miami, and the pharmacies there couldn’t keep adderall in stock any given month but January was always a super drought. In 2014, it was out of stock everywhere from mid-December until Jan. 25 due to a nationwide shortage.

Every month when I needed a refill, I’d have to call over 10 locations to find one that had it in stock. One month it took 28 calls. Here’s what I learned: pharmacies by universities tend to carry a larger stock. Also pharmacies in super fancy rich neighborhoods where people aren’t used to being inconvenienced always had it in stock. Start your search there.

Allow me to respond to your ridiculous rant. Other medicines being available for the same thing is fine, however if a doctor writes a prescription for a specific medication that doesn't mean they can fill it with something else, as doing so would be illegal.

Adderall is sometimes back ordered because it is over-prescribed. There are DEA limits that the drug companies must follow when producing controlled substances. If there is a shortage they must seek DEA approval to override that limit and manufacture additional quantities.

You wrote "maybe their aloud to tell the people they feel don't need it that its on back order". If you're going to be a condescending hypocrite please learn to spell correctly. They are not allowed (not aloud) to tell people it's on back order because they feel as though they don't need it. They are not doctors. They can verify the validity of the prescription with the doctor and that's it.

So please Kelly, if you don't know any of the facts don't waste anyone's time posting your rude rants.

I am. I have generic 30mg twice a day and every single pharmacy in Bucks County, PA is telling me they don't know what is going on but they can't get them in for some reason. It's ridiculous because I also have narcolepsy and it's no joke when i can easily kill a LOT of innocent families including my own wife and son if i fall asleep at the wheel... wtf? And why do I get the feeling this is somehow MORONald McDONALD Trump's fault?

I can tell you for sure adderall 20mg is on back order. I'm in southwest florida. Last weekend I called my script in and Walgreens told me its better on back order, they have none. I panicked and thought ok, I will transfer it to another pharmacy and she said good luck, its everywhere. But call around and if you get lucky call us back to transfer.. so by now I'm definitely worried it's a Sunday. My doctor is not open .what should I do? Started calling every single pharmacy around me 20 Miles wide each direction..I finally got a publix, pharmacy who said we just have 50 leftover. First come. I'm not sure what I will do the pharmacy only had 50 and I needed 60 .she just said call your doctor let him know about the shortage..so I will. From what I understand 30mg are still around? If my doctor was not so mean I'd ask for 30mg..so I will see

I finally found the Teva 30mg @ Walgreens yesterday & so true that they are not working. Took my a.m. dose & 2nd at noon & nothing. Mind you, I have been without meds for 3weeks (due to shortages & backorders in this area), so I was expecting some relief finally, but it was like a took a pill with nothing in it! WTH is up with these drug companies selling bad products & getting away with it?? The Tevas I got the month before last, same thing- not working! I can’t afford Vivanyse as I have no insurance & pay out of pocket for doctor & scripts. Anyone out there have suggestions about any ADHD meds that actually work these days? Don’t these meds have to be tested by the FDA when so many people have complained of their effectiveness? Not only are we NOT being treated for our condition, we are getting ripped off by buying bogus meds with our hard earned money?

I am in IL, 1 1/2 hour from Chicago and my Walgreens didn't have the 20 mg I take last month, but they did get them the next day. Now, it sounds like I won't have any this month by what I see on this forum. Is this shortage only for generic or also for the brand name Adderall? I have been taking these for 9 yrs. and I swear they saved me. This is crazy why this country will not let people with prescriptions take their meds!

Charlene they were small white kinda octagonal shaped. If you take them & feel nothing, DONT take an extra one! I did that & was SO sick. Nausea, cold sweat, severe dizziness etc. I don’t know what’s in these Mallenkrodt (sp?) pills but it scared me so bad I threw them away. I told my doctor about it & she said she has heard a lot of negative about this brand from many patients.

Oh ok. I most definitely had these ones but only once. Its been a while back. I just assumed a little pharmacy by my house would have the Teva I was new to adderall at the time. I just remembered coming home and looking at them thinking what the heck...I was bummed at first sight..then I took one and I knew right at that point I don't like these. Then I had all kinds of strange feelings..at first I thought it was in my head because I didn't like the look of them at first. So a few days into them I just swore to I will never buy from them again..thx for the info I finally found my answer.

Good afternoon everyone, I have another medschat thread on this adderall shortage deal. What's up?? I read a reply back to me, they said: "house subcommittee report's from past year, where the drug manufacturers have reduced output by nearly 30%of certain ADHD drugs and 6 or 7 pain drugs. There has been a real slowdown in preparation for some new regulations which are to be determined sometime this year", (plus another comment back to me saying FDA it's because of the trump shutdown. The FDA itself was shutdown for over a month)...

ALSO I HAVE TRIED LAST NIGHT to get any info from Google looking at any governmental site I could find, for a list of drugs that are backordered or discontinued. And not one single page had it listed on backorder what so ever.. so maybe that's our answer... the FDA itself shutdown... but then again how come we cannot find adderall in pharmacies, but our pharmacies are filled with lots of different drugs.. I'd think if one is hard to get, why not others??

Apparently, drug shortages have become a huge problem. Two of mine have been on back order in the past two weeks. I thought it was probably the pharmacy's fault, but it appears it's a national problem.

No generic either-Teva is long gone. No 20s or 30s IR or XR. Some 10s available for short pd of time.

There is no adderall shortage. Teva has tons of it. The issue is a Walgreen’s system issue where they can’t seem to order it. When I asked them they just keep saying we order it and it won’t go through and they don’t seem to care.

A friend of mine gets his Adderall 20 mg from Walgreens in the northern part of Louisiana. He has not had any problems. It depends on the immediate area. But, Independent Pharmacies are best.

From what I read, the DEA is only reducing the quota for stimulants by 1.66% - it doesn’t seem like a decrease that small would impact supply like this.

I also heard that the shortage could be due to some manufactures no longer manufacturing drugs like generic adderall. I think one manufacturer stopped in like mid-summer.

Jesus people you all think these tech just intentionally subject themselves to your verbal abuse?! There is no manufactures making adderall at ANY pharmacy not Walgreens, not cvs, not publix, not win dixie. They are not picking "new customers". Nobody is getting their medication filled. Seriously stop being so mean to these techs the f*** is wrong with you people. They don't make the drug, they even order it!!! That’s the pharmacist job and if it’s on back order then nothing can be done. If the chemicals to make the drug are in shortage then we are all f***ed. Go be a chemist, learn to make it, cause clearly we are short chemist… I can't stand people who abuse techs.

I switched too! I not only found that they are always in stock, but that I can choose which generic I want to be on. I think there is something to be said for the "Mom and Pop" shops. :)
