Adderall Backorder (Page 87)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Re: Repsol (# 1720) Expand Referenced Message

I usually just text them and ask if it's available. If they already have your scripts on file from your doc they shouldn't have an issue with disclosing whether they can fill it or not.

Has anyone had any luck with Walgreens this month?

CVS is refusing to fill for me, including self-pay/out-of-pocket, because they don't take BCBS insurance.

I read this too, but if this is the case and according to the shortages .gov site the medicine is not listed as shortage, then why do all the pharmacies not have them? I get some not ordering in time, but all?

unfortunately, that varies wildly between pharmacies (even those in the same chain) and even individual pharmacists. worse yet, some seem to outright tell you false information if you press them on it.

Re: bp01 (# 1722) Expand Referenced Message

unless you're attempting to fill too early, I don't know why a pharmacy would be against filling a script out of pocket...

have you used that pharmacy in the past? perhaps they think you're trying to fill up early by switching pharmacies?

Re: tim (# 1725) Expand Referenced Message

No, I've used this exact same location for the last 2 months. And it is day 32 since my last fill.

It's actually part of their policies, especially the big chains. If a patient tries paying out of pocket aka "cash" they consider it a "red flag." In my state, the pharmacist can not only have their license revoked but potentially go to jail. So like, I get it...

Being rude about it (the pharmacist over the phone, not you) was unnecessary, but whatever, I'm used to it at this point.

Look up pharmacy secret checklist. It's also been discussed at length on reddit's pharmacy thread. It's intended for opiods but due to the classification of CII's adderall gets included in there.

Re: tim (# 1724) Expand Referenced Message

In regards to Capsule, my answer was based off experience and the staff explicitly telling me they could not disclose availability info w/o having the prescription first in their system.

They were also filling with Rhodes so presumably the distributor they use still hasn't sent anything, at least in my case given region, bc Rhodes is still unavailable according to fda and ashp.

It does depend on where you live. I live in Louisiana. A friend of mine takes Adderall and has not had any problems getting her prescriptions filled. She uses Walgreens

Rea@lis;, fact-evidence based account of the gratuitously cruel manipulation of an effective and needed treatment for a merciless neurological disorder. Each & every month,,,, compelled to undergo some form of judgment, delay, arbitrary misuse of "the right to refuse" diatribes by many pharmacists, pontificating upon something he knows Nothing about. More later, and it's serious.

True. Power ?? & profit against the vulnerable. Few have seen or read the major study in Dec.,2011 JAMA.
Lack of knowledge leads to the secret lists of the self-righteous ignorant.
Dumping of an effective and evidence-based treatment into the bin of sinful, death-promoting killers like oxy. Mis-diagnosis and missed diagnosis. Barbaric, actually. Like the abject failure ?? of the 1970's "War on Drugs." It's failed 'legacy' lives on. Obscene.

I just saw this link posted on reddit.
Here's an excerpt:

"Issue (Adderall Shortages):

DEA received comments expressing general concerns regarding the ongoing shortages experienced with ADHD drug medications, specifically mentioning the branded drug product Adderall.

DEA Response:

DEA is aware of patient reports that pharmacies are unable to fill prescriptions for their prescribed Adderall or one of its generic versions. DEA consults with FDA to set the APQ for amphetamine each calendar year. The majority of the manufacturers contacted by DEA and/or FDA have responded that they currently have sufficient quota to meet their contracted production quantities for legitimate patient medical needs. According to DEA's data, manufacturers have not fully utilized the APQ for amphetamine in support of domestic manufacturing, reserve stocks, and export requirements for the past three calendar years 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Based on this trend, DEA has not implemented an increase to the APQ for amphetamine at this time. Should the proposed established amphetamine APQ become inadequate to meet legitimate medical and scientific needs, sufficient reserve stocks, and export requirements, DEA has the authority and ability to adjust the APQ during the course of the year. 21 CFR 1303.13. DEA remains in communication with FDA regarding these shortage reports."

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2022/12/02/2022-26351/established-aggregate-production-quotas-for-schedule-i-and-ii-controlled-substances-and-assessment#:%7E:text=Two%20manufacturers%20commented,2021%20and%202022

I think that last paragraph is pertinent, and gives me the slightest glimmer of hope that this will eventually get resolved or relieved, similar to back in 2012 when shortages arose due to an uptick in patients.

I took a month off to reset my body. I was on 60 mg a day. I just had it lowered to 40 mg a day and my regular pharmacy is Walgreens and they are terrible. I was prescribed 20 mg twice a day and they didn’t have them and they don’t really care to help me. Other pharmacies will work with your prescriber to change the dosage to 10 mg x 4 pills a day. Walgreens just continues to tell me to go somewhere else. Instead of calling my Doctor to accommodate a different strength!

They treat you like a crackhead when you are trying to get your meds filled at any pharmacy that has them. If you take them to help you not suck at your job/school and not be depressed and anxious as well (female ADHD) of course we will look to refill when out 2 or more weeks. Big Pharma and Pharmacies treating us like cattle.

Re: Justin (# 1733) Expand Referenced Message

I don't think most pharmacies do that or are even allowed to for controlled substances. They should have no problem telling you the dosages they do have in stock so you can ask your doctor yourself. Good luck.

It depends on the area. If a area is high crime. They will not tell someone they do not know If a person is a regular customer. They do not have a problem saying what they have in stock.

I've never had an issue asking what their stock is for other dosages once they saw my script for one out of stock.

Without being able to verify your prescription, indeed they will almost certainly not tell you

Re: Dr Gary K (# 1737) Expand Referenced Message

Ok that was cryptic. I'm 100% not a conspiracy theorist. I'm into evidence based verification. That said, most of that press release by some DEA communications hack is NOT supported by the evidence. My doctor works for a large practice with a massive # of diverse
clients and medical practitioners in 6 locations throughout Massachusetts, and their HOME PAGE has letter from the CEO / Medical Chief and other top brass discussing the shortage and their recommendations. THIS is a major healthcare provider in the state, so what the heck is the DEA talking about? The evidence suggests it's propaganda, a false narrative. Period. You know, like Police reports that have 72 lies when compared against the video and audio evidence. People can write anything, and unless they're under oath the onus is on Congressional oversight or an Inspector General to prove they're lying. Which isn't happening. They absolutely do not have to be accurate about what they say when their wording is clearly indicating that "anecdotally" they have found this or that. There is no investigation or report or affidavits from manufacturers. It's just "take our word for it ". Reminds me of all the yrs the CDC was reporting Lyme disease as 30k cases a year, until a documentary film exposed the lie and they updated their site to 300k. Oops. Again not about conspiracy theories, but that wording is vague and "we heard.... Someone said".
