Adderall Backorder (Page 6)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Since this thread is going full-on conspiracy theory, let's throw in that the US DOD is shipping Adderall to Ukraine.

Re: Rcma (# 1847) Expand Referenced Message

Just to clarify, I meant that we citizens wouldn't see any amphetamines from the (or those) manufacturers fulfilling the potentially multiple million tablet military order.
When all pharmacy supplies dry up all at once, now suddenly fewer manufacturers have to try and resupply all of them at once - it's like swimming against the current to try and catch up! And all this doesn't even account for delays if any retooling of equipment or changes in packaging is needed.

Re: Tim (# 1850) Expand Referenced Message

Militarys around the world have been using stimulates during conflict since WW2. Germany started it, and everyone else was forced to follow in order to level the battle field. Nothing has changed since then. Google is your friend btw ??

Re: Rcma (# 1847) Expand Referenced Message

You make some valid points. However the laws/rules don't always comply in the same manner in regards to the United States Government/Military, especially when it comes to matters of National Security. If they label something as Classified or Top Secret then we wouldn't know anything about it until it's been Declassified in 20-30 years - and legally speaking, even if the media knew something, they couldn't talk about it either under these circumstances.

I knew this theory wouldn't be very popular lol, and it probably isn't that likely either (I hope), however according to the two 20+ year career military guys that I mentioned this to, it's entirely plausible. They hinted that this sounds exactly like something the military could or would do in preparation for a potential major conflict. They also said that if an order like this was in fact ever given then us civilians wouldn't see a single tablet until the Military's order was 100% fulfilled bcuz they are absolute top priority in such things.

And to those who say our Military doesn't do this anymore, well I can say with absolute certainty that they're dead wrong, they still provide stimulates to our soldiers, but only in times of war. Our enemies will for certain be on stimulates, therefore we have no choice but do the same in order to level the battle field.

Re: Rcma (# 1838) Expand Referenced Message

@Rcma Something that the blog missed was that the Adderall shortage started in 2021. (Some say in 2020). But definitely in 2021. Manufacturers are not required to report a shortage and the FDA can't make them. My pharmacist was telling me there was a shortage in 2021 more than half a year before Teva bothered to report anything. And when the FDA declared shortage over the end of summer, still no one could get their meds filled regularly. FDA only looks at optionally reported manufacture shortages. Does not look at the demand side where prescriptions aren't getting filled. And the DEA will not take quota from 1 company like Teva who was failing miserably and give it to another with capacity to produce. DEA also does a crap job in estimating demand. There is a conflict of interest with the DEA regulating the active ingredients in stimulant medications. The easiest way to prevent people from getting the substance they are providing to the industry is to not provide it to the industry.

Re: HCStymie (# 1857) Expand Referenced Message

One thing to add is that sometimes individual pharmacies have policies regarding this as well. For instance, even though I know for a fact my insurance and state allow refill on the 27th day, I know certain chains (like Walgreens and Walmart) won't fill until the 28th day regardless.

Very good information in your latest 3 posts - it mirrors a lot of what I've been telling people.

Re: Mauricio (# 1840) Expand Referenced Message

@Mauricio I don't do electronic prescriptions specifically for that reason. I get a physical script that I can take from store to store. And with Adderall it is legal to get 3 written out prescriptions at a time to cover 3 months. So, don't have to deal with the doctor for 3 months. You can drop off the script early and they can try to order before hand. Or when you have a pharmacy that is consistently getting meds, you can give them all 3 and they will refill when they are due.

Re: Mauricio (# 1844) Expand Referenced Message

@Mauricio How long before your next Adderall fill is determined by what state you live in and what insurance you have. The federal rule is you can fill a non opioid schedule II prescription 5 days before your run out. So that would be day 25. States then have their own rules which are usually less and usually 2 or 3 days before you run out. And insurance companies also may restrict as to when they will cover the refill. Usually 2 days before in my experience. You can inquire whenever you want. But many pharmacies do not like to give out information due to possible drug seeking behavior. Last thing they want is to get robbed or something. Pharmacies are not allowed to give out the medication earlier than what the doctor instructs on the script. So even if your insurance and state allow a refill on the 27th after your last fill. If your doctor puts the date when to fill as the 30th day, there is nothing the pharmacist can do.

The U.S. is looking into drugs like Modafinil and Adrafinil as possible replacement for Adderall due to lower instance of causing dependence and what not. Other countries had already switched a long time ago.

Re: Tim (# 1849) Expand Referenced Message

I live in South Carolina. I am supposed to get 60 30mg ir and 30 20mg ir a month but I have been on 90 20mg ir for a few months now due to the shortage. Without the goodrx coupon my 90 20mg ir generics would cost me 146 dollars. I only pay about 45 with the coupon. I wouldn’t have to pay anything if I could fill at my Publix because I work there and my insurance only covers refills or medication that I fill at a Publix and if I go anywhere else I pay completely out of pocket. When I looked up the price of brand name adderall 90 20mg ir it is anywhere from 862 dollars to 926. The generics are way cheaper. Now if I was on my actual dose I think I would be paying even more for brand name. It is insane. I even thought about it and I told myself “if I have to pay for the name brand I guess I’ll have to do that.” But now I am glad I didn’t because I would have been so upset knowing I spent that much when it usually is free when I can fill at my work pharmacy.

The military used amphetamines widely during the Vietnam war. It caused a lot of problems and they finally stopped using it as widely as they once did

If the US government really wants to invest in a performance drug for its soldiers I think they could do a little better than amphetamine, lol

Re: Mauricio (# 1845) Expand Referenced Message

900$???

I've paid out of pocket for brand the last few months for my XR as I haven't been able to find generic (which is more expensive than my IR) and that only runs me a little over 200$... and I know the ir costs even less than that.

Where do you live that it costs you 900$?????

Re: Mauricio (# 1844) Expand Referenced Message

Actually, I usually have no issue filling at day 28 (and have filled on Day 27 a couple times with no issue a couple times when i knew i id be out of town). and even sooner than that, I have had no trouble inquiring about stock with a paper script in hand.

Re: Mike (# 1843) Expand Referenced Message

Interesting... but that wouldn't necessarily explain the shortage because only the DEA gives each manufacturer it's annual allotment of amphetamine. DEA gives exact limits and caps. It could triple it and manufacturers would gladly sell pills to the US military. Theoretically they could get manufacturers to double their production because the manufacturers follow the money and the US government is the best customer there is. And that would be a pretty impossible thing to not have leaked to the press by either a bureaucrat in government or an executive at a manufacturing plant. Most of these manufacturers are publicly traded in the New York stock exchange and have to issue quarterly financial reports that would show a riser drop in revenues etc. It would be a really difficult secret and the government would probably hire One manufacturer and have its own security clearance employees working there, signed NDAs. Very interesting and certainly plausible theory though.
