Adderall Backorder (Page 28) (Top voted first)

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

It's the same here is PA. Since I dont have insurance I'm trying to look for an OTC that can at least help me focus. I lost a job because of my ADD, thankfully my boss of the past 6 years totally understands what I go through with ADD.

The post before this was made as a reply to "Blame Obama". Nothing personal to all you sane people out there. BTW: I do believe that the government is doing a terrible job controlling this country, but it's hard to think only the president is at fault.

I haev been taking Adderall for well over 5 years now and personally have found that no other medication, lifestyle or dietary change assisted in balancing out the chemicals in my brain which impair me from being able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time. I find it thoroughly unacceptable that this national shortage just comes oput of no where and we, the patients are simply told, ohh well.

As with everything else in this coun try from politics, corporations and pharmecuticals, WHERE IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY???

Now, I am on Paxil, which falsly created a chemiocal dependancy due to its off label prescribing and NOW I am going through the same thing with my OTHER drug.

Something has to be done here and I for one would love to be invited into the meeting where all appropriate parties discuss the resolution for this excalating crisis so i can see and hear first hand how the people responsible account for the shoprtage and what measures are in the works to resolve it and most of all, a time line when i can expect to again receive the medication that has been the building block of my professional and mental well being for so many years.

This has to stop. The Pharmaceutical companies have to be held accountable for their actions, not the patients.

What exactly is AddieUp and where can I find it? I can no longer concentrate at all. Its disheartening. This hasn't been my year regarding medications. Doctors don't seem to care anymore. I guess their hands are tied.

I have a sister who is a Doctor, a Psychiatrist, who I know socially, and his sister is a Psychiatristt in Midtown Manhatten, and, I know my personal Psychiatrists entire family, and two grown children, and, my ex-wife is the Clinical Case Mgr for one of the top ten hospitals on the entire EST -5GMT, complete with its own Helicopter Pad for trauma patients,
and I have in my possession at this moment a set of $700.00 of Martindale the Complete Pharmacopoeia, and a official REDBOOK with the current wholesale prices and the deep discounted prices, for contractual agreements especially used by the big USA pharmacy chains, I will not insult the forums intelligence to actually name the big chains, or the legal contractual agreements that smaller pharmacies can sign by target specific USA ethical pharma mfg's, and, "they are in the small minority"
1. There is no shortage of patented new generation, C-II amphetamines, in 90%+ of the USA. I will amplify what I mean my newer generation stimulants that are C-II.
A. Ortho McNeil Janseen Pharmaceueticals, Inc "Concerta XR" (extended release) methylphenidate
in all 4 size capsules, 18mg, 27mg, 36mg, & 54mg.
B. There is no shortage in 90%+of ShireUS Pharma's

I think the response's to the person looking for adderall and having a difficult time, were cruel and uncalled for. I have had the same problem finding it for my 10 yr old autistic son with add/ocd and other issues. This med can not be stopped abruptly, I hate (took two yrs for me to relent to medicating my son, but until you have walked in shoes you have been fortunate not to have had to....a little understanding or educate yourself on the issue before blasting someone you do not know..their condition..how it has helped..etc.

On the front page of today's NEW YORK TIMES NATIONAL EDITION, at the very top of the left hand side of the page is the headline story: FDA IS FINDING ATTENTION DRUGS IN SHORT SUPPLY MILLIONS ARE AFFECTED subtitled "Agencies Split on Cause of Shortage, or Even If One Exists".
I will quote exactly what is stated on all of paragraph 5:
"How each mfg divides its quota, among its own A.D.H.D.
medicines, -- preparing some as high prices brands, and
others as cheaper generics, is left up to the company".

Paragraph 6 "Now, multiple manufacturers have announced that their medicines, are in short supply. The
F.D.A. has included these on its official shortages list, as has the American Society of Health System Pharmacists,
which tracks the problem for hospitals. And the American
Academy of Child and Adsolescent Psychiatry has told the more than 8,000 doctors in its membership, that shortages, seem to be widespread across a number of states, and are "devastating" for children".

say the shortages, are a result of overly strict quotas, set by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which, for its part, questions whether, there really are shortages, or,

I work at a doctors office and have been told that the reason that pharmacies don't order brand name adderall is because the insurance pays them more for selling generic. This way, the insurance does not have to pay for the pricey brand name adderall!

@ Ismael - Totally agree with your view on political issue here. Just more Obama haters. I have been on Adderall XR for years and have been unable to get it in NJ or PA for at least 5 months! It is totally absurd!!!

I have been taking the generic adderall for over 3 years. In the past 2 years, I am taking a total of 40mgs. XR (2 20 mg tablets.) Now, suddenly that I have IBX - instead of Aetna, I cannot the perscription filled! They will only give me a supply of 20 mg a day (30 tablets total vs. the 60 tablets I've been getting for the last 2 years). They said my doctor must approve the 40 mg. a day - which he did. And NOW, his approval was DENIED. I've just learned that the FDA - on April 1, 2011 - has declared the maximum dosage for Aderall XR at 30 mg. a day (60 for the non-XR). Is anyone else dealing with this issue? I've been off the drug now for over a week, trying to solve this issue!

I'm in DFW. My doc Rx'd 15mg Adderall about a month ago. Had a terrible time in the last 2 days finding a place that had it stock. Drove to a few pharmacies before I realized I'd be better off calling. I found ONE place far away that had it, but they only had 40 pills left. My Rx is for 60, but I bought them anyway. I don't understand how this could happen...

I know what you mean Lynn but these drug companies have also had shortages of Cancer drugs and Blood pressure meds. I saw a news broadcast indicating 12 people had died due to lack of these meds.
Think about how horrible and threatening not having the adderall is to the functionality of our daily lives. I know I am going through it myself. I see all these people abusing it & here I am just trying to pass my classes further my education and better my life. I have retained almost nothing from my classes which is horrible to me. I can deal with lower grades but I cant enjoy the class or retain the knowledge I came to learn.
What I was getting at was if these companies will deny Cancer Meds and Blood Pressure meds. Knowingly sentencing these people to likely death. Do you really think they will have any sympathy for people like us? I am on my second month of Vyvanse and it makes my CFS flare so badly when it stops working that I have days like tonight when I fell asleep so early I am now awake in pain and four hours from when I am suppose to start another day on vyvanse. Starting it without a full proper 8 hours of sleep makes it that much more useless but what am I to do when it is the reason I slept so early and am awake now? Hang in there I hope your doing okay.

This "shortage" is grade A drug company BS. What should happen is our (useless) congress should pass a law that says "If the generic is not available the the brand name has to be sold at the generics price." This attention created upside, everyone is trying to make alternatives like ADDieUP or synaptol

I have kept a few Adderall from last year and took them the last couple of days (not today). They simply turn me into a jerk, I snap at my friends, co-workers, I have a really bad case of ADHD and I may have gotten a bit more work done but it was not worth how I feel on the drug with such a horrible bad mood.



I'm going to look for some more natural treatments, I have taken fish oils they seem to help. The Addieup formula that the lady mentioned sound good on the website, but I have not ordered any yet.

Another thing I hate when I first go back on Adderall or Vyvanse, the speedy feeling, it's awful. I tried synaptol but the homeopathic stuff doesn't seem to work at all. Any alternatives that WORK would be appreciated, thanks.

the manufacture of any Amphetamine containing medication is very controlled by the FDA, and the DEA. the problem of late is that production amounts are set at the beginning of each year, and there is little or no communication b/t the MD's prescribing, and the companies producing, and the Govt. There are no rules telling drug companies which preparations they make with their allotment, only rules @ how much base chemical they can purchase. Quantities are set based on the past years' sales amounts, not on the needs of patients. There are companies that make both generic, and "brand" name versions, and of course, they are going to go heavy on the more expensive versions. if you go to FDA website, there is a section about drug shortages, with MFR contact info.

I don't like Vyvanse it is junk, and the adderall's I got from Walgreens a couple of months ago are useless. The addieup substitute was much better then synaptol.

I agree, I tried AddieUp from their facebook page and it I felt really good, I cant find Ritalin anywhere so for now Im satisfied with it as a sub.

ADDIEUP, you are right Sarah, this is THE best substitute The only problem, I have to take 2, way better then Synaptol that is for sure. I am going to try to not go back to Ritalin or Adderall again.

Yes, I have been having this issue, with my Psychiatrist,
as recently as late December 2011. I have been on
C-II stimulants since June of 1994. Varying from 60 mg a day of brand or generic Ritalin I/R, to by the late 1990's,
one Dexedrine Spansule 15mg at wake up, followed by, a 2nd Dexedrine 15 mg, at 1PM, (whch interrupted my sleep) then, switched back to Brand Dexedrine Spansule 15 mg, then with "Dexedrine 5mg I/R brand orange hearts by either SKF, SKB, or GSK" as boosters to take up to 3 times a day, afternoons, up to 6PM, finally, by 2001, to one Dexedrine Spasule Extended release, 7AM, another one at 1PM, then, brand Adderall, 10mg, as "boosters" in the PM, as late as 6PM, as I worked full time, and was a full time University night class student, total intake, as much as 55mg per day.
I was informed harshly, by my M.D, and his assistant, female, middle aged M.D, "that 30 mg of Adderall Instant Release is all they can now legally prescribe to me" in a 24 hr time frame, thus, with the Adderall shortage, I surrendered my 90 X 12.5 mg of a 30 day supply of generic Teva/barr Adderall, (37.5 mg per day) to now, a new script of generic Adderall take one at 9AM one at noon, and one at 3PM. I am 62 yrs old, and, that is cutting down too fast, as, I need at least 20 mg of Teva/Barr generic Adderall to focus, and take the last one by noon, thus I peter out by 4PM, with no ability to focus, and, lethargic, until bedtime. Is this new DEA rules????????I was not a happy camper, I was also told, the game plan was for me to taper down to 25 mg max per day later this year.
I called my pharmacist, I have used faithfully for a decade, and "he informed me, he had adequate supplies of all generic Barr Adderall, (actually Teva) in three sizes , the 30mg, 20mg, and 10 mg, and would have uninterrupted supplies for at least the Fall of 2012. He also informed me that it appears the other former 7 sizes of Adderall generic, were being phased out, and for me to give up on the rare size 12.5 mg generic Adderall by Barr Labs/Teva Pharma of Sellersville, PA.
the only thing that saved me during the Oct to Jan 2012
crisis, was after years of taking ampetamines I had some extra bottles of fillled bottles of amphetamines, to get me through this shortage. "I hope by now is finally resolved".
I am not a happy camper, with such restricted doses, especially, from a Psychistrist, I have seen since 1999, who has my records of needs since 1994, when, my original M.D moved out of state, and transferred my files to my present M.D. I have old copies of RX's from around 1997, and 1998 to have filled 150 tabs of Dexedrine I/R Sulfate 5 mg, 3 times a day, plus, 200 (two hundred tabs of 10 mg brand Adderallto take two at a time at 6:30AM and at lunch, script dated une 5, 1998.
