Adco Metronida - Dosage

My doctor prescribed that I take 1 tablet 3 times a day (the 400mg tablets) for my viral infection that I have had for the past 2.5 weeks. He gave me the prescription on Friday am, but I am only starting to take the tablets today (Monday). I see there is also an option to take 5 tablets in 1 dosage for 3 days, and was wondering if this is a better option for me since I am already starting the tablets late... I can't get hold of him to ask. Please advise if you have some info on the above for me.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic used primarily to treat anaerobic bacteria.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea.
