Acute Back Pain 10 Years. Unable To Take Care Of Myself.
UpdatedHello,
I injured my back about 10 years ago. An X-rat showed a collasped, bulging L5 disc. With muscle relaxers and mild pain meds I could function. As the years have passed, the pain has become chronic. Over the last year, the pain has become acute. On my bad days, the pain is so severe I can't move. I can't get dressed or feed my cats. I spend the day trying to find a comfortable position to sit or stand. I stopped working last February and now I am on Medicaid. I found an internist who is very sweet, but does not treat chronic pain. He advised me to find a pain management doctor. I went to one. It was a strange consultation. She had my MRIs and all my other medical reports. I told her I can't drive anymore or work. And a list of other things I can't do without help. During the conversation she said that disc degeneration happens when we age. Which is true, but my L5 disc was called severely degenerated, collasped, and bulging. Over time, I have developed moderate disc degeneration in my thoracic spine and neck, retrolisthisis, annulus tear, arthritis, and my hips are way out of alignment. She had no compassion and made me feel like my problem was no big deal. She wrote a script for me to go to physical therapy. It hurts like hell, but I am not giving up my therapist says he can help align my hips. I sm so desperate, I will try anything. In the meantime, my internist was disappointed with her and recommended I find a new pain doctor. This is where it becomes difficult. So few doctors take Medicaid. And I have noticed that Medicaid patients seem to not get the same quality treatment as people with private insurance, even at hospitals. Also, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2013. While acute pain is bad enough, what is troubling me the most is days I can't function normally. All my family lives in FL and I only have one friend to help me. He is wonderful and has helped so much. But he can't do everything. I am sinking into despair and I am afraid. I live in a rural area and I can't help to think what if, God forbid, there is an emergency. Like a fire breaks out in the house. I am 45 years old. I have spoken to a woman from CT Medicaid about my situation. She wanted to know if I wanted home health care. To be honest, no. I want to be able to function at least enough to do the basics. I am sorry this is so long. My question is: does any one know of a really good doctor who is compassionate and takes Medicaid? I am very grateful for your help.
