Acetaminophen 500 Mg Vs Percocet

Is Acetaminophen like a Percocet? I'm not too fond of Percocets, as I was given them after I had my baby.

Hi Nicki, Acetaminophen is NOT the same thing as Percocet. It can sometimes be confusing because Acetaminophen is one of the active ingredients in Percocet (the other being Oxycodone which is a strong narcotic drug in the opioid class).

However, on its own, Acetaminophen is a readily available over the counter pain reliever (it is not a narcotic like Oxycodone in Percocet), so you should not expect to have any of the unpleasant side effects associated with a drug like Percocet. It is important to follow the instructions on the label because too much Acetaminophen can cause liver damage. One brand name that you would be familiar with that contains Acetaminophen as the only active ingredient is Tylenol.
