Accutane Long Term Side Effects (Page 91) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them! What is going on here?

I'm afraid we're talking about 20 yrs or more when this ' wonder ' drug came out . There wasn't the same technology around then as there is now , to be able to do research on . Also if your child is 16yrs old they can go to a doctor of their choosing and not have to get your permission . When your at that age , all you care about is how awful your face looks , your not thinking about years down the track and all the side effects that will catch up with you . That's what's so good about this forum , we can warn the younger guys about the dangers of taking this drug !

I was on accurate for 6 months when I was 29. I am now 46. For years I have had what doctors have always suggested as bladder infections and blood in urine. I am curious if this is experienced with anyone else out there?

My son is 19. Had severe acne at 15 and we tried everything to avoid accutane. He needed relief and several trials of accutane cleared him up with minimal side effects at that time. He has some acne back now at 19 and some lymph node inflammation; some depression; other things going on and I have wondered if some things he never tells me about. I'm a nurse and researched all that I could about accutane. I am afraid I did the wrong thing. This drug is so harsh and with all the politics behind meds, there is no real protection. When acne is cystic and severe, something has to be done...my son is the gift in my life and I'm worried something is wrong. He also has some hip issues that developed, I believe, as a result of accutane. He was a happy 13 y/o...he is doing well in college now; loves writing rap; he is a good young man. But I am very worried accutane has done some harm. I relate to what you are saying. Look up acnepractice.com for more natural interventions. We also were involved with that....

Accutane causes Degenerative Disc Disease(which I was diagnosed with after a scan) in the back according to my back surgeon.

I tested negative for bladder infections for over 2 decades. Finally, a urologist diagnosed me with Interstitial Cystitis, which is inflammation, not an infection. I believe it is a similar effect to what happens to Chron's disease patients in the GI tract. Of course folks who took accutane and developed Chron's had a legal case against accutane and won. So, I'm awaiting litigation for Interstitial Cystitis, which has left me permanently disabled with multiple debilitating illnesses which began after accutane.

Watch the liver. It contains a lot of vitamin A which after Accutane with its perverted vitamin A can really mess you up. Vitamin A from veggies seems to be allright. Polar explorers got sick and died after ingesting polar bear liver.

I am trying to find out how many people that took Isotrinoin and developed breast cancer. I took Isotrinoin for 4 months and was diagnosed with breast cancer on the 4th month. I am 37, with no family history of breast cancer. I did feel that my immune system was shattered and had the worst ctacked lips ever, my lips have bern dry, but they were bleeding and my dermatologist insisted on increasing the dose month by month. I am hoping to find a way I could collect data and find out how many people have had the same experience as myself? Any advice or feedback would be super appreciated.

Re: Mandie (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Please don’t take accutane. I took it for 6 months in 2017 and now I’m suffering from very rare autoimmune disease which made my life so miserable. This medication is very toxic and can cause very serious long term side effects.

Hi guys. I feel like I needed to make this post to help others because I know I’m not the only 1 who has suffered after taking Accutane. I suffered beyond belief after being on it for 6 months. I felt like my life was over. My hair had fallen out, I was clinically depressed, suicidal, I was sobbing & breaking down every day, could no longer eat certain foods, back pain, low libido. It was absolutely crazy & I knew something was NOT RIGHT. I went on like this for a year because none of my doctors could help me... They were just puzzled. So I did my own research. (Btw I now feel amazing) 1st of all Accutane DESTROYS your digestive system & obviously your mood & well-being & health all begin in your gut. So 1st things 1st you NEED to repair your gut & the way your body digests food. If you don’t your body isn’t absorbing certain vitamins that you NEED for health & getting better! After Accutane any time I ate anything with fat: Example... olive oil, coconut milk, nuts, etc. my stomach KILLED. Accutane leaves ur body without the ability to metabolize fat & therefore it’s just getting passed right into ur stool. You need to take a digestive enzyme to HELP your body metabolize the fat so your body can ABSORB it. So I’m gonna list what you MUST consider doing in order to feel better:

1. Digestive Enzymes (it can be found in any health store... get a potent one)
2. Strong Probiotics (helps heal ur gut immensely!!! I use Vibrant Flora Probiotics 100 Billion)
3. Taking gluten, sugar, & dairy out of your diet (which was SO hard to do for me but those 3 things are so taxing on ur digestive system as it is you literally cannot consume those things in order to heal your gut)
4. Milk Thistle (for your liver because Accutane is also so hard on ur liver & in order to rid yourself of toxins you need to give ur liver some love)

That’s it peeps! This is what worked 4 me & made me feel back to my old self & healthy again. Thank you for taking the time 2 read. Your health is everything!

I believe Accutane permanently ruined my vagina - painful intercourse is a fact of life for me now. See web search results for “Accutane and vulvodynia” - it is a widespread problem.
