Accutane Long Term Side Effects (Page 72)

I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them! What is going on here?
Me- Maybe you need to find a Pro Accutane fourm. This thread is for suffers.
Wanna hear something even worse.
I drink like a fish while on accutane. Like. I get hammered at least 3 times a week and do a few other illicit things to go with the drinking. I also have a drink before bed at least 2 more nights during the week but I think that's negligible. My liver seems to check out ok. *knocking on wood*
I'm sorry to hear accutane messed all of you up who have these nasty side effects. Because if you're desperate enough to buy it illegally or get a rx for it legally then you would be very, very, happy if it worked like it does for the majority of us. Just speaking on their behalf. Unfortunately, like a "net troll".
From Wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Awesome work whoever called me that. Now I know I'm not alone!
@Me -
Congratulations on having a good experience with Accutane. Yes, everybody's opinion counts, but a little bit of empathy and compassion wouldn't hurt. I'm sure if you were suffering with an affliction you would not like it very much if those who were not in your shoes decided to invalidate your experience or make fun of your circumstances.
Has your "opinion" helped to enrich this discussion thread and provide knowledge which could be of use to others?
Everyone relax! Ok, sorry for proving my point like a asshole but this is the internet. You're never supposed to let some arrogant jerk piss u off by simply typing, cause he was bored. So just read what every little jack off has to say and just ignore the people like me. Unfortunatey, everything I said is true (except for the banana peel thing) and I have the right to express myself anyway I choose. So, f*** off all who think my opinion doesn't count. BTW, Accutane is a godsend for at least 90% of us. So how do u like them apples?
ME..... well what can we say !!
I'm sure if you had been on a drug and you got ill whilst taking it you would be singing a different tune !
Go play chicken on a busy highway you foolish being
Me: You, Sir, are an insensitive, pompous ass! I'd like you to say that in front of my face - just another ignorant, cowardly internet troll who takes pleasure in being a douche bag. Don't you have better things to do with your time if you don't actually have issues from the drug? You're time of suffering will come, trust me; and I don't mean from Accutane! :)
Yeah, I took accutane and then 10 years later slipped on a banana peel. Who's fault was it? Obviously the accutane's fault. What else could it be? It's not like anyone can get sick if they don't take accutane right? It's got nothing to do with flawed genes or bad health habits. It's gotta be the accutane. Gotta be.
To Me: It's amazing how people like you can take it multiple times with no problems; I took one round and am permanently f'ed up. My bro and sis took it no problem, also. It truly affects every body differently - I think that some people's bodies are too sensitive to a genetically altering chemotherapy drug (no surprise there!) I highly regret my mother ever taking me to the dermatologist - I couldn't have given a hoot about my acne, that was her concern, not mine :(
I have been on accutane 4 times since I was 19 and I'm now 34. Usually 80-120mg/day for 4-6 months. Don't remember much details. It has been a freaking godsend and it seems to last only about 3-4 years before needing another course. My skin is a oil tanker disaster before accutane. After a course I have perfect skin for approx 2 months after then I need a topical gel called benzamycin and oiliness returns. I have no pain or any problems whatsoever. Just dryness which is controlled with lotions. I get laid ALOT whenever I'm on a course. Some pretty faking hot chicks too! So how's that for a good reason? Anyways, I luv the stuff so much if I could i would buy a accutane factory and eat all it produces. I know that would kill me but I would die happy, with perfect skin, and a hottie on top of me telling me how pretty I was.
Cheers!

Sorry, I meant to say my back "hurt", not her.
I actually did have joint pain while taking it the first time in high school, but it subsided after I went off of it. I was a cheerleader and noticed that my back her when doing stunts, etc..and I know at the time it was from the Accutane. I'm sorry your son is going through all this at such a young age, hopefully he will start feeling better soon. My health overall has been very good, as I am not a "sickly" person, I have just noticed certain things that I think link back to this drug.
khoov1966... i guess in a way you were lucky that it it later in life you got the joint problems etc. others have unfortunately got the problems whilst still in their teens including my now 17 yr old son. He also gets worse as the day goes on. Why the hell don't the governments do their own study and just see how many people that have taken this damn drug have Terrible Problems. Accutane/ Isotretinoin needs Banning . Stick to what is was initially made for.. Cancer drugs should Not be given to treat Acne !!
I too took Accutane two different times in my late teens and early twenties. I am 44 now and 4 years ago had a medianoscopy performed because my allergist ordered a CT scan due to do a persistant cough I would get every fall and they discovered a spot on my lung. Afer the medianoscopy they diagnoised me with at one point having been exposed to Hystoplasmosis, which to this day I have a hard time believing they weren't just taking a guess at something. Around a year prior to that I developed, (which seemed to have happened overnight) horrible joint pain that would leave me barely able to climb up the stairs at night. I would wake up somewhat fine in the morning, but as the day progressed I was in absolute pain and could barely move from the waist down. This pain lasted for approximately 6 weeks. I was given a steroid (I think) and my doctor diagnosed me with a "post viral" infection he believes I developed after a cold that could have settled in my joints. He first ordered tests for arthiritis and leukemia. Both came back negative. I have always considered myself a pretty healthy person and rarely go to the doctor for anything. Unfortunately, a handful of years later, the joint pain has now recently returned to my hips. I do suffer from depression and mood swings a lot, too. There have been times since my early twenties that I have suffered from IBS, too. I have not had it recently, but from my early twenties until early 40's I have had numerous bouts of it. I have always wondered if the 2 Accutane treatments I took 20+ years ago have come back to haunt me as an adult. It scares me a little to read what others are going through as I can relate to so much of these things.
I started on Accutane when I was 15 and was on it for about six months. I've been off it for over a year now and have nothing but problems ever since. My vision went downhill, it keeps getting worse. I've been getting constant back pain as well as stomach problems and heart burn. My doctor can't seem to figure it out. I really do regret not thinking it through when I decided to go on it. The nice skin wasn't worth this. I regret not thinking it through and wish I saw this forum prior to taking the drug.
AND WHAT HEALTH PROBLEMS ARE YOU HAVING NOW MISS SMARTY PANTS????????
I agree. I took it in college as well and discovered I was lactose intolerant two years later. Over 20 years later, I tried the gluten free diet and it has helped so much. I am also dairy free, not from the lactose, but from the casein protein. It was difficult to get out of bed prior to the diet and I was having constant headaches, diagnosed with Fibromyalgia as well. Big difference. Worth a try. It is much easier to eat out and find food now than even two years ago.
I had mild/moderate persistant acne from the time I was 12-26. I used every product and took antibiotics for over 12 years. I was so stressed from my acne that I finally took a low dose (10mg) of Accutane for 5 months. I had no side effects, except for dry lips (but not too bad) and felt great. It started working in only two months and my skin only got better not worse. People would actually ask me what I was using on my skin because it looked amazing. Well 27 years later my skin is still clear and I have not had one single side effect. I wish I took Accutane sooner, so I didn't have to be on antibotics for so many years.
YEAP SAME HERE! They only asked if I was pregnant or was going to get pregnant and the only side effect was dry lips! They were caught in a flat out lie so why isn't anyone that has been on it given big bucks because it's evil at it's best. I have serious life threatening health problems because of this stuff!
Miranda, some of us took accutane *imagine it* before the internet was really happening. I took it in '93-'94. and it was an answer to all your skin's problems back then. there was no discussion about side effects when I took it, unless you were a pregnant woman.
