Accutane And Infertility (Page 7)

I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.
I took Accutane twice at age 15 and once at age 25... I am now 36 and my husband and I have tried for 8 years to get pregnant! My husband had great sperm and they think my eggs address not good quality! I swear this is an Accutane issue! No one side in my family has ever had trouble getting pregnant! Ugh!
We will see I have a dr appt on monday to see if it could be the cause, but I am currently 11 days late for that time of the month and i have taken a pregnancy test and it came out negative. Wish me luck on monday I will keep you updated and let you know if they have good news for me! I took accutane at a very young age of 14-15 and really hope it does not have anything to do with me not getting pregnant, but if it does I will definitely be reaching out to you guys once I do decide if I'm going to take legal action after I find out more information and consult my dr. to see if they have any other ideas about why I have not gotten pregnant still after 4 years of not being protected, no BC nothing.
I am 33 years old and my fiancé is 35. He took Accutane when he was in junior high through high school. I just got pregnant for the first time and miscarried at 8.5 weeks. I have never taken the drug and know that miscarriages happen. My fiancé's brother, who also took Accutane for the same amount of time, has seemingly also had fertility issues. 3 first trimester miscarriages and 1 still birth.
My fiancé and I plan to try to conceive again but are worried that this drug could have had an effect on their fertility. There's got to be a lawyer that wants to jump on this train.
Wow after reading all these messages. I must share I was in high school when I was prescribed accutane... I'm 34 yrs old now, my wife and I have tried for almost 5 yrs to have a child. I was just diagnosed with a low count... I'm a healthy male and can't figure out why. I just realized that this could of been the reason. If anyone is interested in looking into legal matters please keep me posted.
I have taken accutane as well when I was around 14-15 and I'm now 21 and I have never been on birth control consistentally and my boyfriend and I have never used a condom and we have been together for 3 years now and I have not been able to get pregnant I believe I'm infertile as well because of accutane!
I need to share this here, and I really hope that all of you women who have posted will see this!! I have found a cure for all of the side effects. I did a hair analysis and it showed that the problem is in fact a COPPER imbalance in the body. You can read about it here:
drlwilson.com/articles/copper_toxicity_syndrome.htm
I am following a program called Nutritional Balancing to fix this imbalance naturally with the right minerals, vitamins, diet etc. PLEASE look this up! It helped me and I am sure it can help all of you too!
I have an identical scenario to yours. I was prescribed Accutane as a teenager 15 and was on it for a long while. Having been given birth control before I was even sexually active as they took frequent blood tests. Now I'm 34 the youngest of 6 girls and unlike all of my sister's I cannot have children. I am just now trying to figure out "why me". I strongly feel there's a link but need proof to pursue this legally.
I have also had several rounds of Accutane over 5 years ago for about a in total, but my skin is still braking put, but that's a different conversation.
I have been TTC for over 2 years now and have been diagnosed with PCOS. I have been on 3 rounds of Chlomid and 2 rounds of Gonal F unsuccessfully. I grew 18mm or more follicles each time and progesterone tests were high indication I was ovulating. Unfortunately none of the attempts resulted in pregnancy. It's just occurred to me that my eggs were dried out by the drug. I believe that's the reason for my infertility.
I've contacted a law firm to see what the options are. I firmly believe that is at least part of the issue, especially w the extent of my dey eye, it obviously affected (and has residual effects) in a negative way.
Hi there did you ever receive many responses to this. I totally agree with you, having gone through similar experiences and would like to know more
I would not take it if I were you.
I only had minor effects when I actually took it. Years later, though, is when we are finding issues.
I have at least 1 diagnosed issue that my MD directly relates to acutane use (severe dry eye, which has cost me a lot of $$ in medications and OTC drops to try and remedy) and now my suspected problems trying to get pregnant because of it.
Terrible drug. My acne wasn't even very bad when I was prescribed it.
Sad, it's easier to just prescribe Accutane than take the time to explain the benefits and risks of several medications.
One of the consequences of freezing fees for 25 years, with only the occasional 1% or 1/2% increase.
Idk! I just got back from the clinic. My derm didn't ask much, I got the oral medication exchanged with an acne gel. I think they didn't have any topical (bruh). What upset me was the persistent clinic staff at the counter. They were like, questioning me why did I want to change the medication and stuff. Istg they insisted on me trying Acnotin/Isotretinoin (however it's spelled) they kept telling me they tried it already and only had minor side effects like dried lips and such. I could feel that they were kinda disappointed in me for not trying to take it at all ha ha. It is me who makes the choice duh.
Why antibiotics AND Accutane? Drug interactions are possible. Consider topical retinoid (Tazorac), spironolactone, topical dapsone, and antibiotic for 3-6 months before even considering Accutane. It is highly unlikely you will still be bad enough to consider Accutane at that point.
Oh my god, I've never been more grateful to find a forum site. I'm 19 and suffering from moderate acne. Met a dermatologist a few days ago, was prescribed with antibiotics and Acnotin (accutane). Thanks God I researched about accutane right away when I got home later. Even though my mom has paid for the medication, I tried convincing her that it doesn't worth the risk to start it. So I'll be meeting my dermatologist again to suggest me another treatment. Seriously, I'm kinda paranoid of oral medication already.
-Lipids create a hydrophobic barrier which prevents evaporation of water.
Isotretinoin effects the meibomian glands in a way that changes the lipid profile of tear film, causing increased evaporation and Sjorgen's-like dry eye symptoms in men and women. This is well known and well understood:
"Effects of Isotretinoin on Meibomian Glands"
"The Influence of 13-cis retinoic acid on Human Meibomian Gland Epithelial Cells"
"Meibomian Gland Morphology and Tear Osmolarity: Changes with Accutane Therapy"
"Ocular Adverse Effects of Systemic Treatment With Isotretinoin"
"Toxic effects of systemic retinoids on meibomian glands"
Sorry, Sjogrens syndrome. Loss of tears and mucus are water related, not lipid related. Eponyms are difficult. So, isotretinoin would not be the culprit.
There are sebaceous glands of the eyelids called meibomian glands which are responsible for the production of protective tear film. Accutane / 13-cis retinoic acid has been shown to detrimentally alter the structure and function of meibomian glands in several human and animal studies. This leads to dry eyes.
It stands to reason that Accutane effects mucus membrane of the reproductive system as it does other areas of the body.
Consider Behcet's syndrome. You can look it up on the Internet and ask your doctor about it.
No PCOS, my hormone levels are normal, my ovulation is right on cue. I have little to no fertile cervical mucus. My OBGYN has mentioned that that has a possibility of being correlated. Same for my diagnosis of severe dry eye as my eyelids do not secrete the oil that keeps your tears from evaporating too quickly (mine evaporate at 2 seconds when it should take 10 seconds).
