Accutane & Side Affects
UpdatedOkay, I've been taking 30mg of Accutane for almost a year now. I'm very pleased with the results. I used to have very oily hair and skin that led to severe acne on my face. No matter what I did, nothing helped until I started using Accutane. I am fully aware that this is a serious drug, and is the last resort for acne problems. The side affects are clearly listed on various websites and on the Accutane prescription itself. I knew the potential health risks and what I was getting myself into. Those who choose to take Accutane are usually warned by doctors and I also would think one would do serious research before taking this drug. It is very unfortunate that people are suing the drug companies that produce Accutane. I don't think it's fair for the rest of us who are getting successful results. I'm afraid that if too many people sue, then Accutane will no longer be available for retail in the US. Accutane is not the only drug with serious side affects. You do not have to take this drug. It is solely up to you to take or continue to take this medication. If you don't like the side affects.... simply stop taking it. As a very satisfied Accuntane user, I needed to express my frustration to the sue happy folks who are trying to ruin it for the rest of the people suffering from severe acne and are getting positive results from this miracle drug. When a patient is warned about the serious side affects, and they still choose to take the medication anyway, they are willingly taking it at their own risk. Therefore, you should be liable for what ever happens to yourself, not the drug companies. I know many people may argue against my statement on here, but it sure felt good to stand up for the drug I believe has changed my life for the better.

hello nightowl78. Let us hear from you like 7 years from now if you will still be ok. I highly doubt that your mental or physical condition will still be the same 7 years from now. I pray that you are one of the lucky ones spared from the side effects. But i highly doubt that you will be spared. Goodluck tho coz you will need it. you sound as if you are superman but in reality, you are a lab rat of the pharma companies and of course the doctors that rake in the cash. pray hard man.
I took Accutane 14 years ago and I have IBS and had surgery on my back for cauda equina syndrome. I have problems with my nose drying out and my septum has a giant half inch hole in it. The pain I get in my intestines is matched only by the pain I had in my lower back and is so bad it hurts to pee. I took the drug in 1998 for six months and it cleared up my huge problem with acne. But now I am disabled and can't work because of my health problems. I would rather not have taken the drug if I knew all these problems would arise before I turned 30. I understand how you feel it has helped you but if you think about the quality of life you want to have say 10 years from now you'd better lower your standards or risk being sorely disappointed. I believe this drug alters your body function on a genetic level. Good luck. If you insist on taking the drug and not listening to all these very serious long term side effects from people who took the drug more than 10 years ago then you aren't just foolish you are a complete idiot.
hey nightowl78. I have a question for you. do you have a hard time sleeping at night? I have a strong feeling it is due to isotreninoin intake. Please understand that the side effect of you having a hard time going to sleep will be for life. I dont know about you but from what i know sleep is very good for the body. Since your nickname is nightowl i just got curious.
I'm guessing people are suing the pharmaceutical companies because they DIDN'T fully explain all the side-effects. People aren't suing them over dry lips and joint pain, they're suing them over long term side effects that they had no idea they were in for when they took the drug. Since it is such a money maker, even if they take it off the market, I bet that they will do more tests on the drug to improve its safety before releasing it again.
It is a horrible drug that absolutely should be off the market to save people like you that will more than likely start seeing serious side effects in a few years.
I took this drug about 4 or 5 years ago, and I am ecstatic to say that it worked miracles for me. I, too, had bad and painful, deep acne from 4th grade through college. Nothing else worked - creams, cleansers, pills, etc. Everything seemed to treat what was already happening on my face, but I wanted to prevent it! I also had oily skin and hair. I took accutane for roughly 6 months, and I absolutely love the results I still see to this day. I have had no severe effects (knock on wood) and I hope it stays that way. My mom took accutane years ago and she is perfectly fine, too - that was before they made all of these modifications to it to make it safer! On another note, my cousin took accutane a few years ago and has since developed Chrone's disease. They could very well be related, but we don't know for sure. I hope the same doesn't happen to me.
One thing I am happy about and hope to inform others of is that I took this after high school when I no longer needed parental consent. I made the decision solely on my own, and I think it's beneficial for others to do the same. I knew the risks and complications associated with the drug, but it really has been a miracle drug for me.
