It seems as though most people are asking whether or not to put blame on the FDA for such a wide array of drug shortages. There's an article on this by CNN linked below:
cnn.com/2012/07/25/health/fda-drug-shortages/index.html
Strangely enough though, according to the FDA's webpage there is no current shortage of Oxycodone at all:
fda.gov/drugs/drugsafety/drugshortages/ucm050792.htm#O
You might be able to find additional information on previous Oxycodone shortages at The American Society of Health System Pharmacists Webpage.
I hope this helps! You're definitely not alone.
Manufacturers are not required to report shortages of any type to the FDA, that is entirely optional.
And I just did a post on this earlier, so I will put the detailed information here as well for anyone else that has questions on this:
Sadly, it has really become a regular occurrence for shortages to happen during the last few months of the year and there are several contributing factors, so to explain....
All controlled substance drugs have mandatory manufacturing limits, the yearly allowable amounts are based on the prior years prescriptions and projected outlook for prescriptions in the new year. This is done to help lower the chances of theft and diversion, because with a restricted supply, every manufacturer and pharmacy is forced to keep a closer eye and much tighter security on their supply.
Going along with this, there are also limits on how much can be prescribed for any one person per month, as well as how much any pharmacy can order in and keep in stock per month.
All of these seem to have played a role in the shortages going on this year. Many pharmacies were found to have not been enforcing the limits for how much can be prescribed for someone and they were also ordering and keeping in stock more than they are allowed.

The FDA and DEA have recently started cracking down on the laws, so pharmacies can no longer order in more than they are allowed, which means in turn they can't fill prescriptions for more than the monthly allowable amount.
However, since many had previously been doing so throughout the year, they have found themselves without stock at this time to fill prescriptions with.
And they couldn't order more in, if they were able to do so, because once the manufacturers have hit their mandatory manufacturing limit for the year, they can no longer produce new product until they receive their new production allotment number some time after the new year.
Are there any questions? I'll be happy to answer and explain more if anyone needs further assistance.
@ Verwon: you should research this a bit more. This has nothing to do with an "end of the month" shortage, which by the way is NOT that common anyway. This is due to the DEA and FDA enforcing strict rules that lead pharmacists to fear losing their license if they fill a legit prescription. The pharmacies are NOT "short" at all- they are patient profiling or not ordering the meds out of fear. Evidenced by the fact that it has not subsided one bit since you posted in December. It was no diffferent March 7th than it was December 27th.
