8 Months Pregnant & Withdrawing From Subutex 8mg
(Newest replies first)

To make this short, I am currently 8 months pregnant and taking between 8-12 mg of subutex daily. However I can't get my subutex for 12 days. I'm stuck. Currently on 3rd day of withdrawals and I'm 8 months pregnant!!! I'm in horrible pain plus I'm extremely worried about my baby. My local hospital doesn't have a suboxone doctor to dose or prescribe. What should I do?? Will the withdrawals hurt my baby? Where should I go?! Plus it's Saturday!! No doc offices open! What should I do? I don't want to feel this way anymore & I really don't want this to hurt my baby! Someone please help me!

Is it illegal for a dr to discharge someone from a subutex clinic if they are pregnant?
I'm not sure if you were talking to me or someone else but I'll tell you my experience. My ob did NOT want me to come all the way off and I found a new subutex Dr who told me coming all the way off would do way more harm than good so I am currently taking 2 mg a day. I also have had extra ultrasounds to check my daughter and her heart and everything has been perfect. I have a friend who just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on 3 mg a day and he came out perfect, no wds and got to stay in the room with my friend. They kept him in the hospital 5 days for observation and sent him home. I'm happy with my decision and feel comfortable I'm having the best care. Good luck :)
I'm interested if you did stop that far in your pregnancy, did your baby withdrawl after birth or have any issues with delivery?
Hi! I am currently 12 weeks preg and I am on subutex. I want to taper off for the sake of my baby. I take 8-10mg a day and I have decided since I am pregnant I am going to move back to where my family lives (I currently live 5 hours away). I called my subutex Dr and told him I am pregnant (just found out) and that I want to taper and in moving home. I have 15 8mg subutex left and all he told me is to take less and less until I can go 3 days without it and I will have plenty of pills. He said as long as I'm not feeling really sick I am ok. I found this very unprofessional and I am just lost on what to do and how much to take. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
I know how u feel. I am 21 weeks pregnant and the doctors at the hospital put me on 8 mg a day and now can't get any more. They said to stay on it during my pregnancy. Would think they would help esp being pregnant. I cut my dose in half so it would last me twice as long but it wasn't long enough. Its a controlled substance so they have to have a special license to prescibe it. Idk y they would start if they won't finish, makes no sense
Well if the hospital really won't help you, which I can't imagine how they can legally turn you away, you can try looking up a doctor on this link:
buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/bwns_locator
Although I'm not sure you'd be able to get early refills anyway unless you are honest with this new doctor about why you're short and he takes sympathy. Good luck to you and your baby!
The doctor cut my dose while I was around 5 months pregnant. I couldn't handle it so I had to take more than prescribed. Then I find out he shouldn't have cut my dose he should have give a higher dose due to me being pregnant and increased blood flow or whatever. Anyways I had to keep taking my original dosage and that cuts me in half. So I'm screwed.
The only thing you can really do, if you are in withdrawal, is to go to the hospital ER for care, where they have to stabilize both you and your baby.
How did you end up running out with 12 days to go?
If you're already into deep withdrawal, then the danger to you might be over, but I am not sure how any of this is affecting the baby.
I'm in west Tennessee. My doctor doesn't care. He doesn't even know that much about the medicine he has been prescribing me. The hospital can't help I don't guess. They can only dope me up. I don't want that. I just want my sub. And there isn't enough pain meds in world to ease these withdrawals. Scary.
Did you talk to the hospital? Maybe under your circumstances they can give you something to help out until you can see someone.Especially if there might be side effects to the baby, although I can't imagine your doctor wouldn't have gone over all of that with you if he knew you were pregnant. What area are you in? I know alout of the places in my area, as most, are filled with old, crotchety doctors who have zero understanding. Best of luck to you; I know the withdrawal is unbearable even without being pregnant. I can't imagine having to quiet about an unborn baby too.
