60 Mg Morphine Er..what Is The Film Coating?

Updated

Is the orange coating on my 60 mg morphine part of the extended release? If I wiped it off would it become immediate release?

I really can't tell you anything about the time release mechanism that's used, without knowing the specific tablet you are talking about. Are there any markings on it, or do you know who the manufacturer is?

Then again, that may also be moot, because it is not advisable to try and change how a medication is designed to work.

To anyone wanting to remove the extended release film on any drug, you are asking for big trouble. Do you know how many people die every year from this sort of behavior? Come on folks people like you are making it hard on others to even get their meds much less take them.

The coating has absolutely nothing to do with the time release! A lot of people think that the coating is the time release and will argue with anyone who tells them they're wrong, they can argue all they want but they are still 100% wrong! Wet the pill and the coating can be wiped right off and that in itself should be all it takes to know that it has NOTHING to do with the time release of the medicine. The coating is basically nothing more than the material used to provide the color. The color indicates the mg/strength of the pill. 10, 15, 30, 60, 100, there is or at least was a 200mg but they were capsules. Think about it, if you can pop a pill in your mouth and suck the coating off with saliva alone within 10 or 15 seconds, how could they possibly believe that it gives the 8 to 12hr time release effect while soaked in your stomach acids? I've been taking MS 60mg 3× daily and 30mg of Oxycodone 4× daily for breakthrough pain for the last 4 years and have been prescribed most any other powerful opiate combination you can name since Oct. 2003. Although I've been on "stronger" painkillers than Morphine, for me personally the Morphine with Roxicodone for breakthrough controls my severe pain better than Dilaudid, Fentanyl, Oxycontin or Opana with the Roxi/Oxycodone did after several months. Everyone is different and just because one medication is a lot stronger than another doesn't necessarily mean it's going to control everyone's pain better than the other.

If you're looking for euphoria, I don't know what to tell you other than instead of concerning yourself with the coating or getting around the time release I strongly advise you to find a less destructive hobby, one that will never lose its fun! If you're really just looking for pain relief and it's not already too late then I'd advise you to avoid opiates altogether as well. I'm a survivor of an attempted murder/highjacking that left me with very severe, permanent injuries and severe chronic lifetime pain but if I would've known then what I know I would have stuck with the Advil Gel Caps, because after 14 years of taking large doses of the stronger to strongest opiates available for prescription the Advil doesn't work at all. At this point the opiates only help as much as the Advil did after the bones, flesh wounds along with everything else finally healed as much as they were going to and I tried to stop taking opiates to deal with the pain, after taking these type medications for 15 years even if I was to magically wake up 100% healed and pain free someday I would still NEVER be able to be completely opiate free because they have changed my body chemistry so much. That's not an individual risk but it is the nature of the beast that is decades of daily opiate use. I'm not an addict but my body is very dependant on opiates and always will be no matter what.... Do yourself a favor and stop while you can because you WILL either be glad or you WILL wish you did later on, there is no third possible long-term outcome!!!
