60 Mg Morphine Alternative (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been using ER 60 mg morphine sulfate x 2 daily with other meds. No one has this medicine in Tampa area and being legally blind I have no way to go to 50 pharmacies to locate because they won't tell you on the phone. Is there something equal that I can get my Dr to RX? I am running out of other medicines, need help.

Have you ever tried Oxycontin?
It's a time released formulation of Oxycodone, which is a very potent narcotic and it's also stronger than the Morphine, so you'd even require a lower dose, you'd only need 40mgs of it to equal each 60mg dosage of Morphine.
Learn more Oxycodone details here.
Since it is also a narcotic, it may be habit forming and can cause similar side effects to those of the Morphine, which may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation.
It's something you could ask your doctor about.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Hi, have you tried the methadone as someone else mentioned? I've heard it's very good. I know I was freaked out when I heard about it too. Or how about a fentonyl patch. I do use that; only 25 mg. I do have to go to an out of the way pharmacy to get them. As cvs I'd always being robbed. And hey I'm legally blind too!!!
Re: Terri (# 2)
Hi, I called my Insurance company, they transferred me to the portion which handled the prescriptions for me and gave me to a real pharmacist for help. He told me the dose of 80mg of Oxycontin taken every 8 hours wasn't as effective as the 60 mg ER or extended release Morphine. It was a GODSEND! I wake after 12 hours as my spine begins to hurt and take my morning dose, usually fall asleep after an hour, then wake feeling better than I have in years. I am more active, have fewer side effects and the price is fantastic, under $10 rather than about $95 a month after Insurance paid. I felt than I should just die when I could no longer be on my husband's Insurance at 65, but I fear no more. Medicare will cover it, with the Supplemental. Do call first. I was on Oxy's for 14 years after my degenerative spinal disease began destroying it. A Hospital finished the job doing an Emergency Appendix removal. It had ruptured already and in the rush they didn't notice my other problem. Thirteen discs were torn or ruptured and my neck was ruptured. Needless to say, I live with pain daily. I did my physical therapy, found on line, and don't even need a cane to walk. They thought I needed a wheelchair and didn't even expect more of me. Fooled them! Try the Morphine Sulphate ER and if it isn't for you, try another until you find something that does. Doctors aren't little Gods, no later how they may think. Hang in there my friend. I have to get off as I am in a shelter as I evacuated from Hurricane Irma.
Good Luck
