50mg Prednisone Daily For 5 Days For Tonsillitis

Hey, I am having a horrible bout of tonsillitis with bad ear and throat pain. My doctor initially prescribed amoxicillin 3 days ago but pain still persisted, I went back today and got 50mg prednisone daily for 5 days plus a 10 day course of cephalexin. Is 50mg too much over a 5 day period. With previous bouts I was prescribed 10 mg twice daily for 2-4 days with no side effects. I took my first dose after filling the prescription at around 2 PM and am feeling mild discomfort in my muscles and can't seem to sleep. Is this dose to heavy? The pain in ear and throat have subsided which is great but worried about prednisone side effects. Thoughts?

I have been prescribed 50 mg of prednisone for 5 days. Is it safe to just stop it instead of tapering off?
You shouldn't eat grapefruit while taking this drug. fYI
Hey i only took the pill twice and now I HV insomnia and I feel dizzy. Is this pill good for tonsillitis as it is too strong.. Felt like I was going to die yesterday.. Remember talking to myself a lot
Kelly,
I am curious, how are you now? I have to take 50mg for 5 days, and 25mg for 5 days afterwards.
And how long did it take to feel better?
I've been taking 5mg of prednisone for 4 days already for my tonsils and the first couple days taking it I felt great no pain or side effects. I'm on day 5 and my throat feels like its swollen again. Should I stop taking the prednisone.
Hi Kelly,
You're welcome! I'm glad the muscle discomfort is no longer an issue. I have dealt with Insomnia many times, so I thought I would recommend an herbal supplement that I have taken. It's called "Shui Di An" and It seems to be either a japanese or chinese supplement. It has helped me a lot! The bottle is light green/white, as are the capsules. You should be able to run a google search for the name and find them.
Let me know if you need further assistance!
Thank you very much for your reply, the muscle discomfort has subsided although the insomnia remains. I have lowered the dosage to 25mg. I appreciate your help!
Hi Kelly,
Based on my research, some of the side effects of this medication include: insomnia, sever joint pain, leg pain/cramping, and more. That being said, it sounds like you could be experiencing some side effects from this medication.
I'm unable to tell you how much medication is too much because everyone reacts to medication differently, but if you feel that your body isn't handling it well I would speak with your doctor about lowering the dosage.
If I can recommend anything, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to help support your immune system, especially fruits that are high in vitamin C. I've read that Prednisone can weaken the immune system so it's very important that you eat clean to help reverse the process.
