5 Mg Morphine Withdrawal

I have been tapering off of 60 mgs of morphine for the last 3 months. I've been on it for 10 years. First on 120 mgs then in 2009 went to 90 and then to 60 by 2011, up to 90 for 9 months after tri level fusion in neck between c4-c7. Best thing I ever did was the surgery and it wasn't a bad recovery at all. I'm very happy with it. Anyway now I'm down to 5 mgs and thinking about just stopping. I have heard this part will be the hardest. Is this true? My withdrawals have not been bad and I have worked thru it all. Just nervous. Thanks.

That's not a very high dose to stop abruptly, but yes, you will most likely experience some withdrawal symptoms. The FDA lists them as possibly including nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain and diarrhea. It could take a few weeks for all of them to dissipate.

Have you informed your doctor of your plan? Are you on any other medications?
