4 Year Old Taking Adderall Xr

My granddaughter has been given adderall xr for add - she DOES NOT have ADD at all-her mother just doesn't know how to parent. Please help - where can I go for help to report this? How does a DR prescribe this for a four year old? What kind of testing is required?

This Med should not be given to a 4 year old. I take Adderall XR 10MG and I am 43. Adderall is amphetamine, (Speed). Find a new Dr. and throw the script away...

The dr that prescribed the Adderall ER and the pharmacist that filled the rx has more education and training than anyone here. Not agreeing with your daughters parenting skills is something you need to discuss with your daughter. Chances are due to your attitude there are things that your daughter hasn't told you regarding your granddaughter.

My granddaughter lives with me on the weekends and has since the day she came home from the hospital, so it's not like I don't know the child and her behaviors. I am truely not a disgruntled grandma - I have sincere concerns for the child!

Ask your daughter is you can go with her and your granddaughter to the dr the next time she goes. I recommend you read up on ADD and how girls can be affected differenty than boys. Are you aware that ADD and ADHD are different ? Are you aware that not all children with this disorder are hyper ? Does your daughter or the childs father have ADD or ADHD ? Do other members of your family ?

Clearly the Dr. Does not have appropriate training. Hes probably in bed with big Pharma. There all Quacks. Push Meds, drug our children. I'd like to see this 4 year old on Adderall you'd be taking her to the Psych ward Believe me. I'm a nurse w/a BA in psychology. I see this all the time and it always ends in disaster...

You were also asking in your original post, what kind of testing or evaluation is required in order for a doctor to prescribe adderall? Well from what I've researched, the criteria here in the U.S. for diagnosing ADD is based on certain symptoms of inattention; According to Dr. David Rabiner, Ph.D of Duke University, specific details pertaining to this are outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th Edition)..and include things like: forgetfulness, inability to complete tasks from start to finish, difficulty staying organized, etc... i.e. things that are common among many people in today's day and age, where everyone is stressed out trying to do too much or doing things they don't enjoy, and therefore are not interested in completing. Having said this, my opinion is that current diagnostics aren't very reliable since the proposed symptoms mimic normal problems that people (adults and children alike) experience on a day to day basis...

Obviously you don't know anything about ADD or Adhd. If you did you would have read that other people blame the parent and its bad parenting. Do you know that these children don't act the same with others as they do with their parents. I have four kids three of the four are diagnosed ADHD, one of them started on medication when he was 2 years old. My oldest son is 24 years old, he was diagnosed when he was 5 years old and put on medication. My parents and my ex husband would say the same thing. that my son was not ADHD, didn't need medication blah, blah, blah.
People that don't really know about the disorder have it labeled that it is a bad behavior problem and ect.... There is so much more to it than just a focus, inattentive hyperactivity problem. Your not a doctor that specializes in this so you cannot say that your granddaughter is not ADD or ADHD.

Please do not give this child Adderall. My stepdaughter was put on are all and she is 11. It made her sad all the time she wanted to cry and she said she couldn't always felt like she wanted to. They ended up having to Baker Act her she also started cutting herself. I know it was the Adderall she had never acted like that before ever!! Please do not it just made her crazy and sad all the time. Please think twice
