2019 Nationwide Shortage Of Adderall 20mg (Page 2)
UpdatedI'm going to my doctor Tomorrow to tell him I can't get my adderall 20mg filled anywhere in our are. I have called every day pharmacy within 20 miles, I'm told good luck. I don't know what he will give me and I don't really know what to except.. any FEEDBACK would have great. I have taken vyvanse for a short time a while back the only reason I stopped is my co-pay on insurance was high..oh I'm not sure but I'm calling Walgreens Tomorrow to see if they have 10mg or 30mg..a week ago I was told only one pharmacy did have the 10s they said it was basically all the adderall ir.. thanks for you time.. I just don't know much about the ADHD medications
Re: Mika015 (# 15)
what is a steal shortage?
THIS WAS STARTED BY OBAMA. Do some investigating.
I also looked at the FDA shortage page, it's not listed anywhere..so for the past 4 scripts I had filled are for adderall 30mg. My doctor will only give one and a half 30mg a day..that sorta turns into a problem for me because I usually take one 30mg in the am..the around noon time I have to split the other one in half..if it doesn't split well and sometimes it crumbles..I asked the doctor my last visit. Can you just prescribe 2 a day? I didn't get my way...and I know why..this big opioid crisis has every doctor I know they are afraid to put their pen to the pad. This crisis is not all about opioids its about any and all types of medacine that could cause addiction or trouble... I also noticed that he medacine is not nearly as strong as it once was..well I'm sure everyone here understands what I'm saying..now I don't know if our problems are solved with 20mg of adderall..Walgreens said they have the 10mg and 30mg, cvs said they have none of any mg..I'm in southwest Florida, is this a problem everywhere or just in my area for some reason??
Re: Sleepy (# 18)
I understand it's not listed. I have looked several times, but here in Florida, my area Walgreens can only get 10mg, or 30mg. They have teva..so for about 3 months I have to get the 30mg. And split one in half in the afternoon..splitting them without making a mess is sometimes hard. I went to cvs. They have nothing at all ..the other stores pharmacy I'm not sure what they have..but I do know teva brand is the only one I want..I havnt been on this medication long, so I don't know, but I have read horrible reviews on many other brands so I don't want to end up with something that doesn't work for me either....so I wonder what's going on here, even though this isn't an opioid but with the crisis its starting to effect all quality medications...
Re: Charlene (# 23)
It’s the manufacturer the pharmacy uses. The Wallgreens in NH have Teva. Rite Aid has Aurobindo but those are awful. When this happened back in 2011 I used CVS and for awhile CVS used two different manufacturers so some stores had it, some didn’t. So I was driving across the state. It was crazy. Back then I think one of the manufacturers had a recall and a other stopped making it, so it caused a shortage. But it was listed on the FDA site. I haven’t had a problem getting my opiates yet either, but we are a little behind in the times up here. If it’s a problem elsewhere we will have a problem too eventually. Thank you everyone who wrote about this. I will ration my meds. I don’t want to lose my job like I almost did in the 2011 shortage.
My co-worker gets her meds of that sort at HEB pharmacy. This pharmacy's staff are all very understanding and, they will give you the best advice and help out anyway possible to help you find a place to help you get your prescription filled. This pharmacy has so much compaction about people and I have got the best and the most help with everyone that works there. They are truly the best at their job, and care about their customers. They will help above and beyond to give you and all their customers the best customer service. She lives in Kingwood, Texas... I wish there was something I could do to let all the employees get some appreciation and for all their hard work and excellent customer satisfaction they deserve.
Re: Kimma (# 25)
Hello, thx for your reply back to help me with this new medication I'm on..I'm 59. And it's hard for me to run in and out of pharmacies just for info, not to mention most will not give it over the phone..but seriously I have not had the trouble with using the phone..it could be all about how you approach your call, for feedback...my doctor is the one who explained this to me, and wrote it down on paper on how what to say, and what not to say. It's been three months for me to be on teva 30mg...his dosage for me is one and a half..lol. stubborn about giving two..lol..I found out my Walgreens could get teva brand, the only generic I will accept..in 10mg, or 30mg..so I take 30mg..I used to take 20mg x 2 daily, which I don't know if they are in stock at my pharmacy or not. I'm not sure what one I will want to continue to take..mainly because by what my dose is now on the 30s one and a half, I'm getting that extra mgs..amount. but I'm not sure at first when I change my dose somehow the 20mg seemed possibly stronger, probably in my head. Idk...all these pull shortages on different medications are crazy now. For instance I also take buprenorphine 8mg x3... I will only accept Rhodes or hikma brands, by reading other blogs, people are saying certain one are also back-ordered. I see no reason for this. I believe it all boils down to this so called opioid epidemic crisis....and I also read blogs on pain management patients, who are getting very sick or even committing suicide, they are all starting to get together to bring in attorneys to try and correct that. It's inhumane to have people suffering from this, our doctors took an oaths to treat patients and went to college and some are even still paying for school loans they took out, for what to be afraid to put pen to script pad. Afraid of being arrested for treason their patience..now it's up to our insurance company's decision to determine whether or not medicine or surgery is necessary?? That's absolutely crazy.
Have you tried any of the small pharmacies? Like not big branch stores like Walgreens and CVS, Walmart, etc? I've been on 20mg 3times a day for my narcolepsy for 15yrs and only one time did I not get my pills filled the day I went in with my script. I go to a home town I guess you would say pharmacy that has one store in my town in Excelsior Springs, Mo and one in I want to say Nebraska. But a few months ago there was a big shortage like suddenly out of no where every place in the USA, and my pharmacist said I'm sorry I will be getting it in friday morning, it was wed late afternoon, and I was agitated at this, till I went home and called around to see if I could just take my script somewhere else that month and every other place I called, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Red cross pharmacy, they all said they were out and not getting anymore in and they didnt know when they would again. So I waited til Friday morning and around 9:30 am I got text message from the pharmacy that my Adderall script was filled ready.....I haven't had another problem with the shortage at my pharmacy since.
So far in southwest Florida I'm only able to get the 30mg, from my local Walgreens. They are teva brand. I'm sure 20mg are around, but I will only accept TEVA orange ones, I heard bad stories about some of the others..my script were usually for 20mg x2..one day I decided to go to a different pharmacy by me thinking about if they were cheaper? Not even thinking about the brand, never again will I do that, I don't know what type these 20s were, but they were white small stop sign shape and I ended up being bumped for an entire month,
At the time I wrote this post the 20mg teva adderall was no where to be found here in southwest Florida!, in the meantime I had my doctor write me scripts for the 30mg..he only gives 1 1/2, a day..I shouldn't complain because I'm actually getting more a day this way than the other 20mg x2,..I'm curious if they are still hard to find? For some reason I felt like the 20mg were just a tad stronger, even though they are both from Walgreens teva brand....I have read that at this time of year for many medications there seems to be shortages at this time of year,. I also take a another medication called buprenorphine and for almost 6 months now they are playing the shortage game again. But not with all 7 generics of buprenorphine,.only the two that most people favor..same with the adderall,..I can find 20mgs around but they happen to be the brands most people that I have read about that say some are just plain terrible. I found one of those one time, I decided to use a different pharmacy because there prices were down, never again will I do that anymore, I'd rather pay extra for better! Thx anyone for feedback
Re: Micki (# 27)
Thx for your reply,..I'm just a bit curious about what you had said about narcolepsy?...because I'm not sure if I have it or not, I did talk to my psychiatrist about it and he is the one who prescribes my adderall..I was trying to explain it to him and telling him my new insurance company has QL like only 30mg x2 or 20mg x2, he said only 3 are to be given IF you have narcolepsy, ADHD is only 20mg x2, ..anyways on and off I just nod off, now really I just wanted to thank you for your response and now I realize I can just Google this topic...he also told me that if I thought I have this I'd have to see a specialist and do sleeping test..so idk I don't want to go elsewhere and sleep, I have trouble sleeping anywhere , I don't even sleep in hotels lol, but ya seriously thx
Re: Charlene (# 30)
If you have narcolepsy I would recommend Provigil or Nuvigil personally. I was prescribed it for fatigue/adhd until my insurance would no longer cover it since I didn’t have narcolepsy or sleep apnea. But it worked wonderfully. I now take adderall but if I could choose I would go back to Provigil. It worked better for wakefulness (and attentiveness), lasted longer and had less side effects for me. Just a thought!
Re: Jayce (# 31)
M psychiatrist told me provigil wouldn’t work on my ADD symptoms. I was interested in switching because I also take oxycodone for pain and I am sick of being treated like a drug addict because I need meds people abuse.
Re: Sleepy (# 32)
Sleepy (# 32) --
well I can only speak for myself but I would trade my Adderall for Provigil tomorrow if I could for my Adhd. It made me feel alert and sharp with nominal side effects. I totally understand how you feel.
Having any better luck lately getting your prescription filled?
Here in OH I haven’t had any issues at my local Walgreens and they always have the same generic (Teva) and don’t bounce back and forth between generic brands like the CVS I used to use. It took a while for me to find a pharmacy that carried the generic Adderall the worked best for me, and it took lots of searching and phone calls. But once I found one I haven’t had an issue since - over a year now of consistency. I hope you’re all able to do the same! Just keep searching and calling and stick up for yourself - politely of course, but you’re the customer and you know what works best for your body. If this was a heart medication they wouldn’t give you any issues.
Re: Jayce (# 34)
Thx Jayce, I just went to the doctor yesterday, so he wrote my script out for the 20mg, x 2 daily..after I left the office I noticed the script was not written like the past 6 months, I went back in to say ,...hey I think my scripts are written wrong,..he looks at them and asked what do you mean, I pointed them out to him, alls he said was to try to fill it,..if the 20mgs are still hard to get, come back to his office, which I thought it was ridiculous, however he was extremely late coming into his office 3 hours late as it was..so I can't get my refill until the 9th of August..I plan on calling the pharmacy ahead of time for any just incase happenings
Re: Charlene (# 35)
Ahhh what a pain! I’d say find a new doctor but I know how difficult that is to do these days! I hope once they get it filled it won’t be such a pain going forward. If it continues though it might be worth the hassle. It’s crazy how difficult doctors/pharmacies/insurance make it for Adderall (and I’m sure many other controlled substances). Fingers crossed for you!
Re: Sleepy (# 32)
Yea I tried nuvigil once and it didn't help my ADD at all. It gave me a little energy then I crashed super hard after a couple hours. It was really wierd. I had to switch for Adderall ir to the xr because I could never find the ir and they generic s have gotten so bad compared to when I went on in 2011. I never had an issue with my Adderall ir until I stopped in 2014 and went back on in early 2018. All of a sudden they old brands were no good and these new generic s are awful! I eventually switched to the xr because I would have needed 120mg of those ir's to actually get though a day without feeling way under medicated. At least the Adderall xr has a name brand still and they seem to work much better compared. I wish I could get quality ir's like I used to but... I won't even attempt to get a generic form of the xr. I make sure my doctor writes name brand necessary on all my scripts! I pay a way higher copay but it's worth it for me.
