2016 Forums On Limbitrol
UpdatedI took Limbitrol DS in my 20's and I'm am now 46 yrs. I took it for major migraines and pain attacks. Now, going thru menopause and symptoms are returning along with Fibro, only sleeping 3 hrs a night ( currently taking Ambien which isn't working) Have not found a better medicine since. I have medical records from when I took it and showed multiple Dr.'s. Can't seem to find a Dr. willing to let me try it again. It was a Godsend back then. Who is currently taking and what type of Dr. prescribed it to you? A Primary Dr., Pain Mgmt, Pychriatrist, ???? I need to find a Dr. willing to help me. Thank you!

Hello, Jenn! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. I'm in perimenopause, myself, so I know how much of a pain it can be.
I think the main issue why so many don't want to prescribe is due to the fact that one of the ingredients in it is Chlordiazepoxide, which the FDA classifies as a benzodiazepine, so it is a controlled substance due to the fact that it carries the risk of being habit forming.
Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, depression, and suicidal thoughts or tendencies.
In most cases, you will need to see a specialist to have it prescribed, such as a Psychiatrist, however, your asking about a specific medication will cause many doctors to think you might be drug seeking, so you need to approach this carefully and it would be best if you would willingly try other medications, rather than just wanting this specific one.
Have you tried the Ambien CR? Since it's time released, it often helps better than the regular.
