2014 New Pain Medication Laws Dictating To Doctors That They Cannot Prescribe Anything Equivalent 120 Mg Of Morphine Or Higher A Day Per Patient (Page 11)

I was told Friday by my Pain Management Doctor at my monthly appointment that the DEA was implementing a new law dictating to doctors on how much pain medication they could prescribe per patient per day. It could be equal to no more than 120 mg of Morphine per day per patient and they had to comply within 3 months for all of their patients. I am trying to find out as much information on this as possible. I don't know if my Pain Management Doctor is stating fact or if he is just running scared and if he is stating fact, I don't know if this is federal or state (Alabama) mandated. I spoke directly with the Southeastern division of the DEA in Atlanta this morning and they are not aware of any law of this nature coming into effect and I also contacted another pain clinic locally that has never heard of it either. So I have been trying to reach my Pain Management Clinic and get a copy of the law itself so I will know if it's federal or state and if it is an actual law or just a state regulation and if it's even true but so far no one has called me back so I thought I'd try my luck here and see if anyone has heard of this. This really has me bothered. It looks like either way, true or not, to get adequate pain care I am at least going to have to move out of state if not the entire country. I will ask my questions about that in a different post. But if this is in any way true, and it seems my pain doctor is going to be going by these guidelines whether it is or is not true, it is going to cut my pain meds by almost half. I am on 120 mg of Oxycodone and 8 mg of Dilaudid per day which I was told equals 212 mg of Morphine per day. And before someone decides to tell me that I don't need that much pain medication, I will go ahead and say to you, you don't know me, you don't know what conditions I have that cause me Daily Severe Chronic Pain and other Daily Severe Pain to warrant that much medication, you don't know my tolerance for pain meds, I do NOT take any pain medication to feel high, I ONLY take pain medication to relieve some of the pain as what I am on doesn't even relieve all of my pain, I do NOT drink, I do NOT do street drugs, I see my doctor every 28 days just as I am supposed to, I take my medication as prescribed and the way I am supposed to take it except when I had extreme oral surgery a month ago and I did have to break up my tablets for about a week but they were put on my tongue and NOT up my nose and they were IR tablets so I was fine doing that as I had checked with my pharmacist prior, and you don't feel what I feel or see me lying in bed 24/7 crying from the pain because it is so excruciating and unrelenting so please before anyone starts telling me that I don't need that much pain medicine just stop now before you even start. Those of you that have to live with daily pain will surely understand where I am coming from being this defensive as I'm sure you know you are treated as a drug addict by most doctors even. Thanks in advance for any help with my question.
Anybody here have epilepsy? I lost someone I met at Walmart and have no contact info....petite white female in ponytail with epilepsy.....not me, but girl I lost.....no more, this is not a hook up!
I live in NJ and I have no prior history of drug use or abuse of any medicine.
It is not the diagnosis of cancer alone that allows for the patient to be treated as a cancer patient according to the laws. It is the cancer being at a certain stage that is needed.
May I ask where you live? I would contact my local news and tell them my story if I were you, and publicize your suffering by Doctors who aren't even following CDC guidlines for treating pain in cancer patients. It's simply horrible what you're going through. This could help you, as well as others in your city and state in the same predicament because of inhumane Doctors who are letting terminal patients suffer! You all need immediate help, I pray you can get someone to listen! God bless you, you're in my prayers!
I am so sorry. have to tried a cancer Dr. the ones in my area never allow a patient to suffer. My cousin got huge bottles of 4 different pills as often as he asked. I live in MISSISSIPPI.
Pray for me please? The doctors know how painful my eschemic colitis is and my liver cirrhosis and cancer but they are cutting back the only medicine that mildly takes the pain away so I can get out of bed.
Does anyone know if the study that was done on Tecfidera and PML was it done on all M.S patients or just ones with the JVC virus that the med interacts with to cause the pml to begin with?
They can have my name I have nothing to hide I am embarrassed about
I saw an article where the Surgeon General was here in Nashville at Maherry Medical College and told them that Addiction MUST be treated so addictions specialists will be allowed to double their caseload...I wrote the surgeon general and asked him how will that help pain patients and why do we continue to be collateral damage in the war on drugs? No reply yet but I also called Tennessean reporter who wrote article and asked her why are there no articles concerning how pain patients are being hurt through all this? She had a great answer! She said that she has interviewed many PP's and the problem is that none of them will let their names get published or make a public stand about what's going on...I sort of understand...I have a former DUI and the DA insisted that I was nothing more than an addict who would use anything...so I'm guessing if most of us got our names published, at our age having grown up during the 70's yes why have quite a psychedelic history....know whut I mean Vern?
Darlynn, if your psychiatrist is prescribing you valium and xanax it is not your pain drs place to reduce those meds. If your pain dr is concerned about you taking them and the pain meds he prescribes, he needs to talk to your psychiatrist directly. There are No Laws that say a patient can't be prescribed certain meds if they are also prescribed opiates. Unfortunately, a lot of drs tell patients that there are. Extreme caution is recommended when a patient is being prescribed certain meds and opiates due to the high number of deaths in patients that were prescribed these meds together.
Thank you BL I just got a feeling he's going to kick me out. Just so frustrated with money hungry doctors.
@Christy.. That's completely ridiculous!! What state do you live in if you don't mind me asking??
Posters,
Do not fire your physician the government is paying FINANCIAL incentives for them to fire YOU and you will not get another physician.
The CDC and FDA warnings are NOT DEA regulations but your physician is now put in medical malpractice mode so all of them due to the warnings are cutting back and many are being cut off.
Many of the long acting drugs like Duragesic (due to Obama again) will not be available. Methadone will because Obama supports ADDICTS and hates pain patients. He can play dictator with Hillary in their slow banana boat to China, the sooner the better.
I have won again under the Supreme Court and my former employer is still trying to KILL ME. Methadone and a Methadone clinic can save a pain patient who is suddenly cut off or without medications. You will have to tell them "no I'm not an addict but will be one in 24 hours (on the street) if you cannot help me here."
Haven,
Go to trending posts on the home page and post to "doctor who will prescribe pain medication" - there are resources from all over the country there.
Due to the CDC and FDA and the jerk in D.C. people we must get Trump in for he will restore your rights as a pain patient under the Constitution.
Posters,
I am posting primarily on "doctors who prescribe pain medication" if anyone is seeking my help.
Peace...
Haven, you're welcome sweetie. I post the info so people can be informed, prepared and ready. And in some cases so they can undersrand what is happening and why.
No more than me! I know what your going through. I go through the same thing. If you call, email, or write letters and tell them we're voting their asses out maybe it would help. I told Bill Haslam he was no different than Obama. If more of us called them on their holier than thou attitude it might help.
Thank you for saying that , he or she really made me feel stupid for even being grateful . Thanks so much ! Haven
Joe992, Not sure if you read what forum this is but there aren't any politicians, lawyers or doctors here that are able to change laws....we are all IPPs, intractable pain pain who have or who are getting ****ed by a system that is more concerned with appearing like it is concerned about addiction than us pain patients....so how about you b**** and share like the rest of us...or YOU do something about it and let's us know how YOU have helped....good day to you sir!.....
Informing people and giving them a place to vent is needed. Place to give strength when there is no place else to turn is needed. I am saddened by the rudeness of making people feel like they need to be quite when venting is what gives strength and information to learn how to put proper presure and courage to know they are not alone. Have a good day.
