2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 6)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
@40yroldpharm, I appreciate u apologizing for your behavior. I have been taking 1 narcotic for over 2 yrs now. I see where you're coming from as far as being on these drugs for extended periods of time. A few months back, I presented this question to my PMgt Dr. I stated I didn't want to live on this for an indefinite amt of time. I was told I would probably need them for remainder of life. I was shocked. I agree, medicinal marijuana should be legalized. The fact that it's still a C1 drug is so ridiculous. It could help many w/ pain, appetite from chemo, etc. I hope in the future, the govt would legalize it medicinally,it would grow it, regulate it and tax it. It would not only help people suffering, it would surely help the economy. It takes a good person to apologize, offer an alternative even if you don't agree with long term use of narcotic therapy. I'm far from old, and shudder to even consider the fact this is a long term treatment. Thank you for showing some compassion toward the plight of cpp.
Sadie, when did they fill the script and when did you receive the notice to fill locally? Most importantly, what department and employee at Rightsource and Humana did you complain to? That is absolutely wrong that they to sent them and then deny you. What explanation did they give you?
I am very sorry that I am upset so many people, now that I look back on my comments I was an ass I'm sorry and I truly mean that!
but I can't help what has been going on in Florida for the last 2 decades, you have to understand this pain medication is for people who have a very short life left to live so I don't expect to see you John Doe have a prescription filled at my pharmacy for five or six years in a row.... that tells me something is not right.
there is no shortage of oxy codone, the DEA has us to be aware for certain indicators or what you would call red flags.
there are many other medications but would work just as well as oxy codone, but everyone likes the euphoric feeling it gives you and I have been told the euphoric feeling is like no other so I see why people will rob pharmacies people will do anything to get this medicine.
just understand this year will be a very rough year for anyone warning oxy code on IR in Florida.
I am hoping that in 2014 the bill gets passed so that Florida will become a medical marijuana state if you are truly in pain and not just in pain from the withdrawals from narcotics then medical marijuana will help you tremendously I am originally from Pakistan we use this herb quite a bit for medicinal and religious.
I hope everyone that is in pain can get on a proper regimen oxy codone is not going to be in that equation I can see a lot of methadone clinics coming....
I have Humana/ Right Source... they WILL NOT send sced. 2 meds!!! They did it once.. then they sent me a letter. to get this filled @ a local pham... i can;t find a pham. to fill it.. Publix was horrible.. treated like a god know what... my Dr. didn't write for it again.. snce i can't get them filled...I am in Broward..West Broward... what a nightmare!!!M
For the people who do have insurance, why can't you fill your prescriptions through Medco or rightsource ? I know some people at my Dr. office have been able to do this. I am in the process of getting insurance through my employer & still have hope that this is a possibility. If it's not I would appreciate someone letting me know.
Pinellas..try Publix..
@ Dan S: I agree, and it's absolutely horrific what the government is doing to pain patients. Pushing good citizens who have never abused any drug to even THINK about heroin is absolutely deplorable. But please do not try heroin- not even once. It is almost never "pure" and the fillers can include just about anything under the sun, which will cause irreparable damage to your body. I know it's unbelievably frustrating, but there IS a solution that does not involve that poison. Hang in there. God bless.
I really wasn't planning on using Herion as an alternative to Oxycodone. I was simply trying to point out how inept the DEA really is. The war on drugs is impossible to win, there will always be people looking to get high. As a result, there will always be someone willing to supply these people. If the DEA had been doing their job fifteen years ago, this problem would have never been able to get out of control. What a shame.
@ dans please don't use that. That's awful. I would never even consider it, and never have used it. I would be very scared. I understand how desperation can make you think of any way to get relief. Who knows what's in that stuff. Talk to your Dr, try to find an alternative med. Roxycodone is a thing of the past, here in FL anyway. We can thank the pill mills, junkies & agencies that are supposed to protect our rights for pain control. Roxycodone helped me more than anything else, pain control, and not feeling so tired all the time. I've been w/ a pharmacist that knows me, and I've built a trusting relationship w/ this person. There are a few left that will go thru hell to help. Few and far between, but it's a small pharmacy, the chains don't care, I think most of us know that. God bless and prayers to you.
It's getting worse by the day. I'm hoping I can fill rx tomorrow. I was told yes, but not roxycodone. That's long over now. Now I hear there's shortage of dilaudid too. It sickens me that ppl are turning to heroin. Omg. What a travesty to all of us. I have never or would never try that, id rather w/ d and go without. God bless and to all the lying pos pharmacists who are holding our quality of life in their hands, I wish you could suffer for 1 month to see how it feels to be in chronic pain
It's a sad day when it has become easier & less expensive for me anyway to find heroin than to find my therapeutically appropriate, legal, prescription, written by a licensed physician. It appears that the DEA has done an excellent job of making it impossible for every legitimate pain suffering patient to fill their prescriptions but can't seem to stop the steady flow of illegal drugs from being grown, processed & smuggled across our borders. Nice job!
@ Elinor, it's a horrible situation. No one can fill roxycodone, that's been taken away from all of us. I had to switch to opana, and thank God, I'm able to fill with same pharmacist for quite some time now. I see ppl coming out of pain clinic in tears bc Dr is cutting their meds. Idk, but it's probably those who are getting 2 meds, long and short acting. I get 1 med, and that's 1 too many, some jerks in here think we like to have to take these meds, like it's a joy ride. Only those who have experienced chronic pain could understand our suffering without a med to give us some quality of life. Idk what advice to give you, other than a small pharmacy, with a pharmacist you can build a trust with, and is willing to help you. I get nervous every month that I'll be told they can't help anymore. What a way to live in fear that the rug could be pulled out from under at any time. I'm sure 40 pharmacist is loving this post. There are so many like him, a cold blooded heartless person. God bless you and hope you can fill your med
SO NOT FAIR ... I can not, nor most can not fill ANY Roxicodone's here in Florida ... I've had my RX for 3 months now ... no one will touch me. I had a rewrite for Morpine IR 30mg ... and they say they no longer are getting them either. bEcause of this, my Dr., ONLY writes the same quantity ...meaning, he rewrote the 30mg to 15 mg, same amount... so I am cut 50% ... again .. initially was cut over 60% when I switched Dr's as Mine would no longer write Roxi's period. I had #180 .. my Dr., now of 2 1/2 yrs. ONLY writes for #75 ... and that's all he'll ever write , no matter the strength ...ALL BECAUSE of the FEAR OF THE DEA ... SO UNFAIR ... sickening ... and far too many are killing themselves because now .. it's not only Roxicodone, but almost all pain pt's I know can not fill any of their controlled substance RX's ... period. I am talking the same Pharm for years who knows them ... TOO MUCH UNDERHANDEDNESS from every single source ... lies, illegal search, seizure & accusations and of course, arrestes ... have lead to nothing but sorrow for the INNOCENT ... AND MORE DRUGS FOR THE DEALERS & ADDICTS, ETC.... I've had it !!!
@ Paula, we know that, bc I too called my insurance co last yr when this whole nightmare started with not being able to fill the roxycodone prescription. Mr pharmacist is a liar, and a fraud. Insurance co can't tell you who has meds and who doesn't. Another example of this man's lies.
OMG!!! Mr. "Pharmacist" guy....I called my insurance company and they said well try this one or that one...they should order if for you...blah, blah, blah...they can't call to find out if a pharmacy carries it just like I can't so how the Hell are they going to tell me where to go???!!! You, again, are an ASS!!!!
You know nothing, which proves you're no pharmacist. I get my 1 pain med filled every month by a pharmacist who cares, and am treated with respect and dignity. It's obvious you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to this subject. Thank God my pharmacist has taken the time to develop a relationship with me, and understands chronic pain and how I've expressed my gratitude of giving me back a quality of life a person deserves.
if you have insurance you should be able to contact them and they should be able to find you a pharmacy that will fill your medication.
like I said any prescription with PMC-xxx is not going to be filled, sorry.
@ Brim, well said. I don't wish suffering on anyone, but this so called pharmacist is generalizing everyone into 1 category. If he was who he says he is, he would be able to have empathy for people and realize each person is an individual and everyone's situation is different. It's sad he has a 1 track mind and thinks no one needs medication except the terminally ill. It's a sad state of affairs to treat everyone in the same manner when it comes to managing chronic pain. This only shows his ignorance and lack of empathy for a human being. Someone like this obviously has never dealt with chronic pain. If you're reading this do called pharmacist, educate yourself on learning what humanity is all about. You can't be taught how to be compassionate, you either are or you aren't. Someone like you shouldn't be in the medical field. It's frightening how many that have the same views as you. A disgrace, as I've been in the medical field for 30+ yrs, and have always tried to put myself in another's shoes before passing judgement.
@panicnpain: this is why I believe the "pharmacist" is actually not a pharmacist at all. Even a pharmacy tech would know that pain clinics aren't glorified drug trade centers. Pain patients are made to go through so many hoops, spend so much money and be scrutinized by arrogant, judgmental pharmacists just to get medication that has been legitimately prescribed by a licensed physician who also makes the patient follow strict guidelines. Why should a person have to suffer and be treated like a 25 year old heroin addict when they have a painful condition that is not their fault, and keeps them from comfort and happiness. These moron pharmacists and DEA agents need to all experience global arthritis for a year. Then we'll see who's denying pain meds to those who needs them!
A LOT of the 30's are coming to TN.I know over a hundred people who goes to FL and gets them and brings them back. This is why you have a shortage in FL.
