2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 46)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

OK.. I don't understand something... it has been said that 1) Oxys will not longer be available in Fl in March... I just got a script for March and am having it filled at an new pharmacy, providing I give them all my scripts.
2) that mail order is available in Fl, yet there is a law that a PM doc can only write for a month at a time and must have an exam every month. Also, there are no mail order narcotics allowed in Fl.
Now what is the truth?

sadie. i can narrow it down for you. Me and 2 friends of mine who all have insurance from a legit doctor all get 15mg roxies and i get 30mg roxies filled just this morning on this months rx and my friend got his last friday pm. There was a tight shortage for a while but have no issues. in fact the pharmacist joked with me this am and said the price went down a little this month...(said something and it made me laugh) but no issues from him he just confirms with me 30 days on the calendar before i leave each month so im on it.
indian river co, brevard co, port st lucie co, martin co, and palm beach
look if you live in boca delray-send me a post with a way to contact you. i know a place my buddy goes in delray/i95 right there and will accept you and will be able to fill since you live so close. ok, make attention to me i dont like giving info out. email me {edited for privacy} and hurry or im erasing soon and ill send just you the doctors place to look up on google for delray bch and youll see it.

unfortunately chances are you're going to have major problems when you're filling your prescription(s) for multiple CII meds.
there are many reasons, I personally will not fill any prescriptions for a pain management clinic. I do not feel good they are governed enough and quite frankly will give medication to it anyone willing to pay their hi visit fees. I am NOT the only pharmacist to feels this way and that is why you run from pharmacy to pharmacy trying to get this narcotic medications filled.

sorry if I come across rude I am just being blunt.

the medications typically giving out here in Central Florida are oxycodone 30mg/15mg usually 180 tabs.
along with a long acting medication too many to list.

I am NOT your doctor, so therefore I will not judge your pain or the causes of said pain. however, I will use my judgement in dispensing medications.
I have worked at Hospice as a pharmacist and people with final stages of brain cancer and other sorts of cancer were not on even schedule 2 medications I know I know everyone's pain is different.

Just keep in mind I am your local pharmacist and it does not matter what you do what you say or how you act threaten etc.

you will not get your schedule 2 medications filled out of my Pharmacy and I am NOT the only 1 we recently had a convention in regards to the dispensing of narcotic medications.

Floridians the FREE ride is over, no more abusing medications, no more selling medication, no more having medicaid pay for your medications.
I am sorry that was rude but necessary, I will be so glad once the new government owned and operated dispensaries are in place.

take that for what its worth and to those who are truly in need if you go to a legit doctor you should not be reading this.

@user-friendly, I think most of us that have posted on this site don't know who or what drugs are on the street. I wouldn't know about such things, because anyone selling these meds to anyone should be jailed for life. If you're so lucky and getting your meds filled every month, then why are you in a forum thats topic is roxycodone shortage? Most of US aren't lucky as you put it as you are. Yes, I'm annoyed that so many US are suffering, at the hands off our own govt. So many of US have been suffering months now. @ Jem , d Ratliff is a good person, and gives it everything the has. May I suggest n half to stretch out. I do it, and it's better than skipping a dose entirely. It's pathetic this how we must live. I've been in pain mgmt for a, most 3 yrs, and getting meds filled early is something I've never done. I asked my insurance a while back if it could be done send was told yes, they'll just override it. I know it would send up red flags with pharmacist especially, so wouldn't even consider it. I've been in excruciating pain the last 5 days, I've taken 4 extra tablets in last 5 days. I'll have to cut dosage in half to make it up in next few wks. I asked Dr another 15 a month, said no problem, but decided against it, bc it could be just enough for pharmacist to say I'm not fillingfor you anymore. Dr said to ask him, I'm not going to jeopardize my relationship it's taken me months to build. That extra 1/2 med would help me a lot. Ready to give this all up for eternal peace. Just vomited again before. In bed, vomited my extra med, so here I lie sick and in pain. Life is getting more unbearable. God bless you all, and peace yo each of you.

Exactly. Abusers always have ways of getting their fix and there are people selling this stuff on the street up the wazoo (or so I hear), yet disabled people in horrible pain are forced to drive to every pharmacy within 80 miles every single day just to be turned down?? Wow, this "war on drugs" is going great!! What idiots thought of this??

That's not true, Molly. Maybe they are not able to send certain meds to your state, but they definitely do still ship strong narcotic meds through the mail. People on other threads post that that's all they use now. They probably do a more thorough verification than before but they ARE shipping out meds like oxycodone, opana, etc.

@the 40 year old pharmacist:
Yeah, we'll, sorry to be rude to YOU but you're not a doctor, period. It should not be an option for you to play god and cut off a patient who was legitimately prescribed pain meds by an actual doctor. And by the way, pain management clinics do not hand over drugs to everyone "who can pay their fees". Who do you think you are telling chronic severe pain patients "the free ride is over"?! These people take these drugs every day (because a doctor prescribed it to them- they disnt ASK for it!) Just another judgmental, self centered pharmacist that thinks they're smarter than the doctors prescribing the medication. This is why, quite frankly, pharmacies schools are considered subpar now, and pharmacists will soon be obsolete. Treating chronic pain sufferers like worthless drug addicts looking for a "free ride" WILL come back and bite you. By the way, I'm currently in medical school, and if I ever run into a pharmacist who profiles patients like you and blatantly disregards my orders to patients, that pharmacist would be getting an earful from me, along with his superiors. Doctors shouldn't have to put up with arrogant, self important pharmacists that think everyone should just "deal" with their pain like you. So even cancer patients don't get schedule 2 drugs huh? Lol, on which planet? I assure you, most do. And I also assure you that when you're elderly with spinal degeneration and a broken hip, you'll be sorry you treated upstanding citizens with severe pain like scum. Pathetic. Grow a brain and a soul.

@the 40 year old pharmacist: Im sorry, did you just gleefully (and cruelly) post the sentence "no more Medicare paying for your medications"?? As if that's a good thing? Who the hell do you think these medications were created FOR? You need to go back to one of the million pharmacy schools popping up every year if you don't know. And you need a reality check and to be knocked down off of your high horse if you think you think you've been educated adequately. Sorry to be rude, but you are obviously on an ego trip, bitter that you aren't as respected as doctors. It's clear by how big a pay cut pharmacists have taken and by how few jobs there are out there. You are a prime example of a pharmacist who does not deserve a job. There are thousands of CARING pharmacists out there looking for work who aren't on a power trip. I truly hope you lose your job and I say that because I believe you are a dangerous candidate to hold the position you do. You are not THE "local pharmacist", buddy. There are many more in your town, no doubt much more intelligent, and much less ignorant than you.

I have seen the quote unquote narcotic contracts that is the doctors draw up in there office. so yes when you ask to be treated with narcotic therapy, uh you are asking to be getting drugs now I understand that some of you think your pain is so much and so on bearable that you have to have this but that is simply not true you have to climb a dependency latter before you can just start off with extreme doses of medication and it can't be climbed within a 6 month period. but here in Florida pretty soon the government is going to mandate and controlled by their own privately owned dispensaries.
so your local pharmacist will not have to deal with a person with such a huge narcotic physical and mental dependency. I am along with pretty much every other pharmacist in the state with the exception of the mom and pop stores will not fill any medications for a pain management clinic.... now a surgeon yes.
you have to understand that we are being held liable for what happens to you and that is not fair. A very good friend of mine lost his license in Sanford Florida for simply filling prescriptions that is not right well I can tell you I'm not losing mine and that is why all of you cannot get your medication filled you are not going to a reputable doctor not a pain management clinic.
when our technicians look and a prescription they look for PMC usually printed on the prescription once we see that we kindly tell you we do not have that in stock or we do not carry that, that is a nice way of telling you that we will never fill that prescription I am only doing what the DEA in the Florida Board of Pharmacy has told us to do.

For a pharmacist, you sure sound uneducated.... You sure you're not a pharmacy tech? Every pain patient I've spoken with go to pain management clinics to manage their pain with as little strong narcotics as possible, so uh....NO, they're not all "asking for" narcotics. A d you obviously have never had severe pain, seeing as you seem to think no one but people who have just had surgery a day prior need these drugs. Hopefully one day you'll learn how wrong you are. Hope it's not the hard way. What a compassionate "pharmacist" you are, thinking no one, not even cancer patients, need strong pain medication to live normal lives. This is why you're not a doctor. Leave the prescribing up to those who have been trained to do so.

By the way, a real pharmacist woul never say "you may think your pain is unbearable to the point you need these drugs, but it's not". Again, who are you to step in these patients' shoes and start diagnosing?? You are not a doctor; you need to get that into your head or change jobs. Your mentality has no business in the medical field. We are supposed to be empathetic and compassionate, not selfish, cruel and judgmental. Get over yourself and do everyone in your county a favor- retire early.

what you fail to realize my friend is is the 1 that is trying to prescribed medication, is not interested in your well being he is interested in his wealth being it is all about the money in India we do not have this problem.

"pharmacist": to say all pain management clinic are illegitimate and every doctor working in one is basically a drug dealer, perhaps you should stop profiling and actually research each and every pain management clinic in the country. Guess what? I am a pain management patient who has no interest in taking prescription drugs and my doctor never offered one. In fact, he is extremely reluctant to prescribe anything stronger than vicodin to any of his patients. And this wouldn't happen in India?? Lol! You mean the country that ships millions of strong prescription drugs to other countries every year without so much as an online consult?? See any us online pharmacies shipping Xanax and 200mg tramadol anywhere? Nope. If you're so prejudiced against Americans, go work in an Indian pharmacy.

okay...haven't posted on here in a really long time mainly because I finally found a pharmacy to help me out and I've been going along just fine. However, I'm posting today for two reasons. 1) I stupidly went to a different pharmacy (Walgreens) because my usual Walgreens was low. My regular pharmacist said to have the pharmacist at any other store look up my profile and I should be fine. NO!! I went to a different Walgreens with a pharmacist that thought she was God and she said my prescriptions (the one I've been filling now steadily for 2-1/2 years at Walgreens) did not "qualify" under their guidelines and she was not comfortable filling it. Okay fine....she has a right to her opinion and to do what she wishes in her own store. I don't think it right, but everyone has what they consider their "ethics" so fine. HOWEVER, she put something into the Walgreens system that basically prohibits me from filling my script at ANY Walgreens ever again!!!! Are you kidding me??!! I spoke to my regular pharmacist about this and he said it's a new rule that Walgreens just put into place and once a pharmacist does that another cannot undo it. I think that's a bunch of crap. She doesn't know me...I'm not her patient and she hasn't been filling my meds for over a year. How can she make that call for everyone??? It doesn't make any sense. My pharmacist tells me the only way to fix it is to either change doctors (which we all know is a bad thing) or change medications (which again is not the best plan). I take oxy because it works for the pain AND allows me to still function rather than lying in bed in a stupor not being productive. If I could take Vicodin or some other drug that works AND allows me not to be stupid all day, I would...obviously much easier to come by. Anyway...that's that problem.
2) To the "pharmacist"....a) We're not in India!!! If you are, stay off this board...if you're not, then who cares what happens in India???? This is America and this is a problem here...we don't care about there. b) You are not God! You are not a doctor! If your "ethics" or laziness (not wanting to fill out paperwork or whatever) keeps you from wanting to fill narcotics, then so be it. But don't assume you know how anyone else feels...EVER. You don't. I will admit there are other drugs that work for my pain. However, again I will say it's all about quality of life. I would gladly take something else that is easier to come by and I wouldn't get looked at like a criminal or a drug addict. However, I would have partial pain relief and I would be laying in bed like a bum all day instead of up working like I should be doing. I suppose going on disability is a better think than working to support myself though huh??? You just might want to think before you say stupid stuff. I realize and agree that everyone does have their own opinion and as an American citizen you have a right to that and a right to voice it. However, you cannot go assuming everyone is like you and that everyone is either an addict or a dealer. We are not!!!! I'm just saying. You can have your opinion, but I really don't think this is the correct place to voice that...unless you want people ranting at you :)

Lol, right, YOU are out for the patients best interest but ALL doctors only care about money. You're a joke and an embarrassment to the medical field. I'm going to earn my doctorate in a few months and I will tell you that I would NEVER hand out schedule medication if I did not have imaging proving excessively painful and degenerative conditions. Again, you're not a doctor!! And if you were, you would be a horrible excuse for one. You're cold, callous, selfish and completely uncaring- four characteristics that are completely unwanted in the medical community. I feel terrible for everyone who comes into your pharmacy with their legit prescriptions.

You are a callous awful person. Thank God there are good pharmacists left out there that are still willing to help chronic pain sufferer's. You're a travesty to the medical field. I wish no one harm. I hope someday you suffer like the dog you are and need pain meds and try to get them filled by someone like yourself. You're evil, and yo judge everyone as you do, you will be judged. Thank God I have developed a relationship with my pharmacist and he understands my need for 1 medication that gives me some quality of life. My insurance covers my Dr visits and my med. Now go rot somewhere until judgement day cones for you. you're less than human, you're an animal.
